Add labels to a standard error bar chart in @Stata. This example uses `serrbar`, calculates `upper = mean + 2*std`, and overlays labels with `mlabel()`. techtips.surveydesign.com.au… #Stata

My Uber driver yesterday asked what I did for a living and I said "I sell a statistics package", to which he responded "like Stata?" It turns out that he had been a Stata user before a career change. His thoughts on Stata: "Really easy to use and so powerful". Today I am at #AustPH2026, come by and see why researchers across many fields use Stata to do more with their data.

Italian Stata Users Conference 2026 - Milan, 17–18 September 2026! Aimed at promoting @Stata community commands to a wider audience. Day 1 (17 Sept) opens with Scott Cunningham (@causalinf) discussing AI Agents for Research Workers: where coding agents genuinely help in the empirical workflow, where they mislead, and what that means for reproducibility. The day continues with: New Community community-contributed commands: • xtthreshold — panel threshold regression with interactive fixed effects (Jan Ditzen, Yiannis Karavias & Joakim Westerlund) • rdlasso — RDD with high-dimensional covariates (Marianna Nitti & Marco Ventura) • bbandits — batched bandit experiments, ε-greedy & Thompson sampling (Davud Rostam-Afschar & Jan Kemper) • wqsreg — the first Stata command for Weighted Quantile Sum regression (Marta Ponzano, Stefano Renzetti & Andrea Bellavia) • catmetrics — 300+ association & forecast-evaluation measures for categorical data (Andrei Sirchenko & Konrad Wrębiak) • stfform - Assessing the functional form of the Cox model (Daniele Spinelli and Rino Bellocco) • fffuroot - implementing unit-root and stationarity tests with smooth breaks approximated by flexible Fourier form (Giovanni Bruno) Tips and Tricks: • adoadd - developed to control Stata’s ado environment (Jan Ditzen) • Building Desktop Applications for Stata Using Python (Giovanni Cerulli) Innovative ways to exploit the latest commands included in Stata 19: • Beyond Evidence Synthesis: A Meta-Analytic Framework for Explaining Heterogeneous Dynamic Parameters (Maria Elena Bontempi) • Bibliometric Analysis in Stata: Text Mining, Network Community Detection, and Unsupervised Learning (Carlo Drago & Gentian Hoxhalli) • Optimal Policy Learning under Constraints in Stata (Giovanni Cerulli) Joining us from @Stata Kristin MacDonald on gsem and Di Liu on cate. Applied work on microsimulation, latent transition analysis and public health mapping wraps up the meeting in the late afternoon. Day 2 (18 Sept) offer a full-day training course: Modern Difference-in-Differences: New Problems, New Solutions, led by Scott Cunningham. 🚀 @Stata #graphfunctions is now bumped to v1.7 This is a major update: ⭐ Added a new command "labrepel" v1.0 for force-directed label repulsion. The examples below show label displacement on both x and y-axis, and only on y-axis. This function is still beta. 👇

🚀 @Stata #treemap v1.7 is now up on GitHub 🚀 The is a major update with quite a lot of new options: 🔲 method(): Users can now specify three layout algorithms squarify (default), slice, or dice. These can also be mixed across layers e.g. method(squarify slice dice). 📐 ratio(): Users can now specify a custom box ratio. This allows users to move away from the default Golden Ratio (1.618). E.g. ratio(1) can be mixed with square dimensions xsize(3) ysize(3) for a more boxy look. 🔄 orient(): This was requested several times. The larger boxes are placed at the bottom-left across the layers by default. Now you can start the placement anywhere and also mix across layers. You can for example specify bottomright (br), topleft (tl), etc for custom orientations, e.g. orient(tl br bl) etc. ↗️ labangle(): Since the alogrithm now allows slicing or dicing, label angles can also be customized across different layers. E.g. labangle(0 90) Visit GitHub for info, examples, installation instructions: github.com/asjadnaqvi/stata-… Up soon on #SSC! #Stata #DataViz #DataVisualization #StataViz

The following @Stata packages have been updated on #SSC: 👉 alluvial v1.51: github.com/asjadnaqvi/stata-… 👉 geoboundary v1.22: github.com/asjadnaqvi/stata-… 👉 graphfunctions v1.6: github.com/asjadnaqvi/stata-… 👉 treemap v1.62: github.com/asjadnaqvi/stata-… All updates bring new features, bug fixes, enhancements, so test them out! This is the last update for 2025 on SSC. The figure below shows which packages got the most attention in 2025 in terms of new releases on GitHub (github.com/asjadnaqvi). Definitely there are fewer releases in 2025 as compared to previous years. The older packages that are regularly used are currently in a solid place so changes are mostly marginal. Might go back to some of the abandoned ones and revive them. 2026 will focus more on the consolidation of some of these packages to make them more streamlined.
