Here's Jean Sullivan's poetic description in #Jèrriais of the Queen's visit in 1846 members.societe-jersiaise.or…
On this day (2 September) in 1846 Queen Victoria visited the Island, alongside Prince Albert, marking the first State Visit by a Monarch to the Island. They arrived in the Island at 6.30pm and were greeted by the Lieutenant-Governor’s sister and a Guard of Honour. In St. Helier, seating for 6,000 spectators was set-up and Elizabeth castle was illuminated. The following day, Her Majesty had a tour of the capital before visiting Mont Orgueil. Prince Albert spent time sketching Corbière, Noirmont Point and and St. Brelade's Bay. The visit was so significant it prompted the building of @victoriacollege to commemorate the occasion. The Royal Party departed for Falmouth at 8am on the 4th September.

However, while the story of the road to election as a Deputy for women has been well-recorded, did you know that the oldest role - that of Constable - was the last to have a woman elected and there have been just six women leading our Parishes to date.
