Sea Sunday is on 12 July. After a fire at Southampton Port last year, the Qing Hua Shan crew faced an extended stay and were low on fresh food. Chaplains Gregory Hogan and Luke Phillips brought fruit and vegetables on board, offering practical support when it was needed most.

Choosing the right #lifejacket can save lives, but it also has to be comfortable enough to wear while working at sea. We’re proud to part-fund STAY AFLOAT, a #FISHSAFE short film exploring lifejacket choice for fishers. Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=Gd8dIesS… #FishingSafety

Fishing is one of the world’s toughest professions. Already this year, families are grieving fishers who did not come home. Each year #NationalFishingRemembranceDay brings communities together to remember those lost at sea. In 2026, it falls on Sunday 10 May. Will you join us?

I also wish to entrust to the Lord the maritime workers who have fallen victim to the conflict. I pray for the deceased, the wounded and their families. Land, sky and sea were all created for life and peace! Let us also #PrayTogether for all the migrants who have died at sea, especially those who lost their lives in recent days off the coast of Crete.

As #Lent continues, we share a reflection by Deacon Douglas Duncan on Holy Week and what it means for seafarers and fishers. In both the Gospel and life at sea, moments of joy and sorrow, sacrifice and hope are often held together.
