Ahead of industrial action in schools in NI this week, a reminder of the scandalous disparity in teachers' pay across the UK and Ireland. Salaries have fallen by 16% in real terms over the last 4 years; new teachers in Scotland and the Republic earn around 60% more.

"I'd already enjoyed a few American Thanksgivings so that year we decided to host our own. None of us had ever cooked a turkey. Helen took responsibility for that, making many calls home to her Mammy in Manor Kilbride for instructions..." @SineadIngoldsby is next #NewYork @rte

CS Lewis on reading old books:
“It is a good rule, after reading a new book, never to allow yourself another new one till you have read an old one in between.
Every age has its own outlook. It is specially good at seeing certain truths and specially liable to make certain mistakes.
We all, therefore, need the books that will correct the characteristic mistakes of our own period. And that means the old books.”
Great to finally have a rigorously researched academic study of one of Belfast’s most celebrated film directors.
