BE CAREFUL WHO YOU HITCHED YOUR WAGON TO
The election is over. Everybody has voted. Some are celebrating, others are disappointed. But regardless of how you voted, there is something more important than whether your candidate won.
Did you compromise who you are trying to help them win?
Peter's denial of Jesus did not happen in a few seconds. He had time to walk away, but he stayed in an environment that weakened his convictions. Eventually, Peter found himself saying and doing something he probably never imagined possible.
That story should challenge every one of us.
First Corinthians 15:33 warns us that bad company corrupts good character.
During an election, it is easy to hitch our wagon so tightly to a candidate, party, or political movement that we begin defending things we once condemned.
Now that the election is finished, maybe it is time for an honest heart check.
If something was wrong before Election Day, it did not suddenly become right because your candidate did it.
If dishonesty was wrong when the other side did it, it is still wrong when your side does it.
If disrespect bothered you coming from your opponent, it should bother you coming from someone you supported.
That is what No Compromise means.
The danger of hitching your wagon to someone is that wherever they go, you can slowly start going with them.
My loyalty to a politician should never become greater than my loyalty to the principles of my faith.
Peter eventually heard the rooster crow, and that sound forced him to confront how far he had drifted.
Maybe the end of this election should be our rooster moment.
Not an opportunity to point fingers at somebody else's wagon, but an opportunity to examine our own.
Ask yourself:
What did this election bring out of me?
Did I become more hateful?
Did I excuse behavior because it benefited my side?
Did I treat people differently because they voted differently?
Did I compromise principles I once said were nonnegotiable?
The election may be over, but the test of our character is not.
Politicians will come and go. Political power will change hands. Another election will eventually arrive.
But I refuse to allow politics to determine my character, my compassion, my integrity, or my faith.
Be careful who you hitch your wagon to, because winning an election isn't worth losing yourself.
No Compromise.

Last month Jalen Hurts gave $600,000 to Northeast High School in Philadelphia so the kids would not have to sit in classrooms that hit the 90s.
Now he is out, being treated for blood clots.
So on Monday, the kids went out onto their football field and spelled QB1 for him.
Here is the whole thing.
By Hurts' own count, 52 schools in Philadelphia still do not have real air conditioning. When it gets hot in September, kids get sent home early.
Hurts decided to do something about it. His foundation started a program called Keep It Cool.
The first gift was $200,000. It put air conditioning into 10 schools.
Then last month he went bigger. $600,000 for a new HVAC system at Northeast High, the biggest high school in the city. He stood up at the ceremony and said his goal was to take that number from 52 down to zero.
A few weeks later, the news came that he was being treated for blood clots, and the Philadelphia Eagles would have to play on without him.
The kids he had helped did not wait for anybody to tell them what to do.
Northeast High has a tradition going back at least 15 years of making shapes on the football field that you can only really see from above. Football players. The V-Settes, the school's majorette and dance team. Students from all over the building.
They had less than a week to put it together. On Monday, the day the Eagles played the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, they walked out and formed two letters and a number.
QB1.
It took about three minutes to get everybody in place.
The woman who organized it said it was a reaction to everything else people were hearing.
"It's like everything in the news cycle is so negative and there's just no support."
The principal put it simply.
"This is our way of giving back to somebody who gave a lot to us."
It was not just one school.
Across the city at Clara Barton Elementary, one of the first 10 schools that got air conditioning from him, kids chanted QB1 at a pep rally and wrote him letters. Swoop, the Eagles mascot, showed up to carry them to him.
Their principal said this.
"He showed us so much love that we just felt the need to show him love back."
And all the way down in Channelview, Texas, where his mother works in the school district, students made him get well cards. The district declared Monday Jalen Hurts Day.
Here is the honest part. Nobody has said exactly when he will be back, and the team has said very little.
But the kids did not need an update. They just needed him to know.

Today a Clemson defensive tackle rang a bell in Greenville, South Carolina, and walked out of the building finished with chemotherapy.
He turned 21 five days ago. He was 20 when they told him.
Here is what his mother did when she found out.
Meek Brown closed her nail salon in Atlanta and went to take care of her son full time.
Then she asked for something else.
"Just give it to me because he's twenty. He's only twenty."
His grandmother Marie asked for the same thing. She is 67.
"God, look, I'm 67. Just give it to me. I'll take it."
His name is Hevin Brown-Shuler. He is from Atlanta, Georgia, and he went to Pace Academy there. He was a four star recruit who picked Clemson over Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan and ten others, and he wears 42 and plays the same position his dad Alonzo played in the NFL.
It started with a cough in the spring. He thought it was allergies.
Then chest pains. Then he could not finish workouts without being sick.
The team doctor checked him for pneumonia, and when that was not it, sent him to the emergency room in late April. That is where they found the mass in his chest.
Hodgkin lymphoma. Clemson announced it on the 19th of May.
Here is what he said that day.
"I am grateful that the prognosis is very good."
Then he went and did the whole thing without leaving.
Every day in team meetings. Every day training. He asked his position coach to keep sending him the playbooks and to keep him in the summer install. Dabo Swinney called him every week. A teammate named Cade Brannon sat beside him during treatments.
In September they let him stand on the field at Memorial Stadium in a purple cap, and he put it like this.
"I'm just excited to go watch them ball out."
Today was the last one.
"I promised myself I wasn't going to cry, but obviously that didn't happen."
Swinney hugged him. The Greenville News, describing the video of it, says the coach told him he loved him.
And here is his mother again.
"This is probably one of the best days of my life since I had him."
Now the honest shape of it. He is not finished. One scan is still to come, and nobody has used the word everybody wants to use yet. He has played seven games in his life and has six tackles. He has not been on a field in pads since 2025.
But a doctor at the hospital put his chances of a cure at about 90 percent, and in May, on the day Clemson told everybody, this is what the kid asked for.
"I can't wait to run down that hill and touch Howard's Rock again for the 2027 football season."
