β οΈ Linear Regression R2 Common mistake: assuming a high LR-R2 reading automatically means prices are moving higher.
The Linear Regression R2 indicator measures trend strength, not trend direction.
A reading approaching 1 indicates that price is closely following a linear trend, but that trend could be moving upward or downward.
Likewise, a reading near zero suggests that price action lacks a clear linear trend.
π Pro Tip: Pair LR-R2 with price analysis or other indicators, such as the Stochastic Oscillator or Linear Regression Forecast, to help determine the direction of the trend.
Remember: a strong trend isn't necessarily a bullish one.

Linear Regression R2 in Action π
Here you see SPY's daily chart shows an R2 reading of 0.49, meaning roughly 49% of its price variation is explained by the linear trend. The remaining variation may reflect other market influences, including interest rates, inflation, and economic conditions.

Linear Regression R2
Some markets move with a clear sense of direction. Others show no obvious trend.
The Linear Regression R2 (LR-R2) indicator helps chartists distinguish between the two by measuring how closely price movements follow a linear trend.
The indicator oscillates between 0 and 1:
π Closer to 1 = Stronger trend
β Closer to 0 = Little or no trend

β οΈ KST Common mistake: assuming every bearish KST signal line crossover means a trend reversal is coming.
During a strong uptrend, KST can remain above zero for an extended period, even as it crosses below its signal line.
This doesn't necessarily mean the uptrend is ending. Instead, it may simply indicate that upward momentum is slowing.
The same principle applies in reverse during strong downtrends.
π Pro Tip: Pay attention to KST's position relative to the zero line, not just its signal line crossovers. A slowdown in momentum isn't always a change in trend.
