Five weeks ago the BC Conservatives were written off. Tonight British Columbians handed them a majority government.
Make no mistake about what this is: a rejection of socialism. A decade of the NDP taxing what works, blocking what builds and spending what we don’t have — and treating the people who mine, log, drill and farm as a problem to be managed.
Prosperity doesn’t come from Victoria. It comes from free people, private capital and a government that gets out of the way. Tonight BC chose that.
Congratulations to @LDoerkson and @Conservative_BC. Now go undo the damage. #BCElection #BCPoli

WHY would Canada remove the requirement that forces employers to prove no Canadians are available - especially for trades jobs? 🛠️
When local tradespeople are already sitting on the sidelines because construction is slow, why make it EASIER to bring in foreign workers without first checking the domestic labour market? 🤔
This is the OPPOSITE of protecting Canadian workers! 🇨🇦
Replying to @BarbaraBalCPC
I’ve been a sheet metal worker in Ontario for almost 25 years, mainly working as a HVAC installer. The last 2 years have been the slowest I’ve ever seen. New home building is at an all
time low. Lots of trades people out of work, but let’s start bringing in more.

THE CANADA IN WHICH I GREW UP, IS NOT THE CANADA OF TODAY.
With our policy of multiculturalism, immigrants do not assimilate.
Multiculturalism is a failed policy that should be abolished. Let’s promote our own culture.
It's striking that London where I've been for the last few days feels like India. It's overrun by low skilled Indians which leads me to believe the West is helping to solve India's massive youth unemployment problem.
At my hotel, everyone on staff were newly arrived from India. Their English was often poor and the service wasn't great. The staff were shouting back and forth to each other in Hindi like you would in a chawl in India. A chawl is low cost housing and densely populated.
All of this is coming to Canada. Can’t wait. 🤡

BLACKROCK JUST CUT US STOCKS TO NEUTRAL AND TURNED BULLISH ON TREASURIES
The shift comes from a note by the BlackRock Investment Institute and CIO Rick Rieder.
- Short-term Treasuries: up to overweight
- Long-term Treasuries: up to neutral from underweight
- US stocks: down to neutral from a long-held overweight
BlackRock says it is still bullish on AI and calls the stock cut short-term risk management: "We are managing near-term risk, not changing our core convictions."

To quote the great Canadian philosopher Keanu Reeves: “I’m too old to argue. If you think 1 + 1 = 5, good for you.”
That’s how I feel about those calling today’s Canadian jobs report strong enough to justify rate hikes. Sorry, but those were weak numbers.
Employment in Canada fell by 68,300 last month, more than erasing previous job gains this year as the trade war with the US drags on bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
I like opportunity
bill ackman on why large, boring companies now drop 25% in a day, something he says almost never happened when he started:
"a quarter of every american business, plus or minus, is owned by some combination of vanguard, state street and northern trust. when you shrink the float of a public company, the marginal buyer and seller is going to have more impact on the stock price."
"the marginal buyer and seller today is a citadel or a millennium. they operate with a large amount of leverage, very large gross books, and they're increasingly short-term."
"most investors are very short-term focused because they're compensated that way. they won't invest in a company unless they're confident the price is going to be higher on december 31st."
passive owns the float, pods set the price, and both are structurally unable to hold through a bad quarter. that inability is the opportunity.
It’s funny that the job numbers are so bad as usually left governments create fake(ish) government jobs to improve the numbers. Wouldn’t it be even worse if they were doing that and the numbers were still this bad
Canada just shed another 68,300 jobs in a single month.
September's drop dragged total third-quarter job losses to about 35,000 net, with the damage led by the public sector. The Canadian labor market is now visibly cracking.
Canada is the canary for a rate-squeezed consumer. Mortgages reset every few years there instead of being locked for 30, household debt is among the highest in the developed world, and the job market is the first thing to give. Watch it as a live preview of what high rates eventually do to an over-levered economy.

Canada recession looming?
The province of BC is proposing a 24.5% top marginal income tax rate (combined rate of 57.5%). This still wouldn't be the highest rate, that goes to Quebec at 25.75.
The highest US state rate is California's 13.3%, the only US state to crack the top 14.
