I was delighted to help reveal the first clinical data for GIGA-564, a differentiated, non-blocking anti-CTLA-4 mAb designed to selectively deplete intratumoral Tregs.
#AACR2026 showcased how quickly oncology research is moving. It is inspiring to be surrounded by so many researchers working to better understand and hopefully treat cancer.

This achievement has provided me with an opportunity to reflect on how we got here, and the story starts with following the science.
In 2009, I became interested in how FOXO1 regulates Ctla4, and how this regulation was a crucial component of FOXO1 function.
Late last year, we announced IND Safe-to-Proceed for this molecule, and now, through cross-functional collaboration with teams across Grifols, GigaGen, and the NCI, this molecule is being tested in a Phase 1 study.

Yesterday marked a significant milestone for our team at GigaGen, as we announced the dosing of the first participant in the Phase 1 study of GIGA-564.
You never know where following the science will take you.
In 2009 I became interested in the regulation of Ctla4 by FOXO1. In 2015 I decided to focus my new academic lab on understanding the multiple mechanisms of action of 1st gen anti-CTLA-4s.
