This is a very interesting piece from @ian_cushing ⬇️
Nice to see my article 'Language, discipline and ‘teaching like a champion’' assigned an issue in BERJ, where I explore standardised language and body policing amidst cultures of 'zero tolerance' and 'no excuses' schools. Open access: doi.org/10.1002/berj.3696

This is a great introductory article to some of the key social and historical influences on Macbeth >> historyextra.com/period/stua… I’ve put the main bits into a Word document that can be accessed here >> dropbox.com/s/7m95p2wk765x7r… #TeamEnglish

Syntax matters & I love this example (borrowed from Justin Cronin). Two sentences. Same number of words & syllables. 1) Slowly I turned. 2) I turned slowly. Number 1 feels slower. Language & the order its written, creates time and a physiological effect on your reader.

THREAD: How would The Birlings have coped with Covid-19? @Team_English1 Mr Birling: anti masker, anti vax-er, it’s all a hoax etc. Avoids furloughing his workers by claiming they were on zero hours contracts. 1/8

Getting a lot of STOP THE COUNT tweets. Not being funny but if we had got the stakes out when he landed at Whitby we'd be done with it by now.

If you haven't read 'The Time Machine' by HG Wells, I'd recommend you give it a shot. Especially, if you're interested in how Wells' vision of the future influenced JB Priestley. The Birlings are basically the Eloi. Concerned only with making their lives easier etc.
