Two months before Allie was kidnapped, someone vandalized three of the six Flock cameras in nearby Woodruff, South Carolina. Allie's kidnapper almost certainly drove by one of the downed cameras. If those cameras hadn't been vandalized, Allie could have been home much sooner.
Allie was the picture of a typical 12-year-old girl—pink-and-white-striped shirt, blue jeans, and a PINK backpack, blond hair askew—the day she was taken. She later told police she thought she was meeting a 15-year-old boy, whom she’d first spoken to online and with whom she expected to be in a relationship. Instead, when Allie (whose name I’ve changed for this story, and whose image I've anonymized with @grok for this post) climbed into the black Chevy Malibu that afternoon, she found 31-year-old Brandon Britten. He drove them across three states, to his home in Independence County, Arkansas. Britten and his wife Sierra had conspired to abduct Allie, police allege, talking with her online for a month and even soliciting nude images. Upon returning home, Sierra told police, Brandon had “taken the child back into their bedroom while she slept in their young son’s bedroom.” Back in Woodruff, North Carolina, law enforcement began a fevered hunt for Allie. They thought she had gone to Arkansas or Texas, Spartansburg County sheriff Bill Rhyne told me, but were at “a dead standstill” until they found a surveillance-camera image of Allie entering the car. They fed a description of the vehicle—they had no license plate—into Flock Safety’s license plate reader database, which can track cars based on their appearance. “Without [Flock’s] technology, we would be at a complete standstill,” Rhyne told local media. After a few hours of combing the results, investigators found further images of Britten’s car, driving south through Alabama and into Arkansas. At 3 p.m., Spartansburg called the Independence County Sheriff’s Office; 90 minutes later, police had arrested the Brittens and recovered Allie. “I was able to locate the minor in a back bathroom with her face and hands against the wall shaking,” Lt. Zach Rawlins wrote in a sworn statement. “After telling her who I was, the minor thanked me for coming to get her, and said she wanted her momma.” America is gripped by a panic over Flock’s network of automated license plate readers (ALPRs), driven by stories of abusive cops and people wrongly jailed because of what critics call a creeping surveillance state. Largely absent from this discussion are stories like Allie’s, which is not unique: dozens of other children have been returned safely to their parents thanks in part to ALPR technology. Read about those children in my latest @CityJournal: city-journal.org/article/flo…

With Flock, police found and recovered this abducted little girl within hours. She was "in a back bathroom with her face and hands against the wall shaking,... she said she wanted her momma.” Horrific imagining what the kidnappers would have done with another couple of hours.

Oakland's 911 system has been on the verge of collapse for years. Newsom promised to update the 911 system in 2019. He eventually built a new, digital, $450 million system—but it literally didn't work. Blackouts like these are the result.
Oakland's 911 system down since last night; still offline. 📰 The city's 911 system has been offline since 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night, according to mayor Barbara Lee and police. 📰 Reports show large fiber optic and copper cables sliced away by an apparent "bad actor," according to police chief James Beere. 📰 The police department's 911 call center has been re-routed to the county's system. 📰 Police say they are answering the phone but can only respond to "Priority One" calls. 📰 The city's 311 system also is down. oaklandreport.news/x/h-oakla…

We exposed a pack of convicted child rapists in taxpayer-funded housing in San Francisco. And, of course, the local media is now taking the side of the sex offenders.
Christopher Rufo targeted a Tenderloin halfway house over its sex offender residents. California law allows all 32 to live there. Community leaders dislike the building for a different reason: its operators. missionlocal.org/2026/10/sex…

EMPLOYEE OF POPULAR DC RESTAURANT ROBBED AND PUNCHED IN THE FACE DURING TEEN ROBBERY ON 14TH ST NW🚨 According to a DC police report, a worker at the La Grande Boucherie was standing outside of the restaurant on 14th Street NW last night at around 9:50pm when a group of juveniles approached him and asked for a valet parking ticket. One of the suspects then put their hands in the victim’s pocket and felt cash. As the other three suspects approached, two of them grabbed the man’s arms, while another punched him in the face with a closed fist. The suspects then obtained roughly $260 in cash. As one of the suspects was running away, they dropped their iPhone. The victim was able to pick it up and bring it inside, handing it over to a coworker. Once realizing the phone had been dropped, the juvenile suspect returned to the restaurant on THREE separate occasions— demanding his phone back. All four suspects remain on the loose, and MPD continue to investigate the robbery just a few blocks from the White House. #DCCrime

I mean, if you can’t watch two people pretending to be 15-year-old siblings having sex, are you really free at all?
“Porn that shows or depicts sex between step or foster-relations where one person is pretending to be under 18 will also be captured by the new offences.” They’re banning “incest” in porn where the actors aren’t even blood relations. For non-incest porn, you can’t play a character under 16. So to summarize, the UK is making it illegal to pretend to be a high school freshman in a porn. You can pretend to be 17 though. Unless the person you’re having sex with is your step mom. In which case, that is banned, unless you pretend to be 19. How will they determine if the boy having sex with his step mom is supposed to be 17 or 18? This remains unexplained. This is what the UK focuses on as it continues its sad decline.

I want to be clear: I would have preferred not to make this video. I am sharing it to explain my upcoming coverage of the race for California state controller, including my efforts to interview incumbent Malia Cohen (D-CA) and why my candidate interview coverage of this office will feature only her challenger, Herb Morgan (R-CA). I would have preferred to produce a piece giving both candidates equal time. Those are journalistic values that guide me every day. After weeks of outreach and back-and-forth with Cohen’s team, a Zoom interview was scheduled, then abruptly canceled by her team. I was told she had no availability to reschedule before the election. Her team said I could submit written questions for Cohen to answer in writing. I respectfully declined because I wanted voters to hear directly from her on camera, with the opportunity for follow-up questions. I told her team multiple times I wanted to ensure voters heard her side, her priorities, and answer why she deserves a second term in office. I made every effort to make that happen. Fairness is always my priority. My goal was to give both candidates the same opportunity to discuss their records, answer meaningful and tough questions, and speak directly to voters. I regret that I could not make that happen, but voters deserve transparency about the process.

At minimum, we should note that if a Democratic administration had a White House press secretary who had worked for a Chinese law firm in Beijing for years, we would already have a Dinesh D’Souza documentary, a special episode of Tucker Carlson, a week’s worth of programming from Glenn Beck, and about a hundred Donald Trump social media posts about it.
