🚨🚨We can't end chronic homelessness without preventing it in the first place. @MayorBowser must use her upcoming budget to get serious about preventing chronic homelessness, especially for single adults.

The McPherson Square encampment eviction is today. Trust between outreach workers and other service providers is undermined. Where it can take years to establish trust, it takes only seconds to lose it. This hinders connecting residents to housing and health care.
The encampment eviction is tomorrow. Encampment evictions sever connections to care. It becomes very difficult for residents and outreach workers to locate each other to continue services that connect to housing and health care.
Encampment evictions result in the loss of vital records: social security, birth certificate, health insurance cards, and other ID. This makes engaging with social services and healthcare extremely difficult or impossible until replaced.
3 days until the McPherson Square encampment eviction. Former encampment residents experience increased risk of physical assault after eviction from encampments due to absence of a community and protected living location.
Evictions contribute to drug overdose: life saving narcan gets lost and residents are pushed into living in isolation. Residents loose protective community that would administer narcan for overdose, and participation in addiction treatment is disrupted.
Stop the McPherson Square Encampment Evictions. Encampment evictions are life threatening! Negative impacts, including impacts on health, of evictions call for a more constructive and humane approach to truly end homelessness.

Encampment evictions are violence. Expediting an eviction of 70 people by 2 months - during hypothermia season and with no contingency plan - will kill people.
