A really good morning of transplant-focused learning at CMC Vellore @OffCMCVellore today.
We had the BTS team - Dr Sunil Kumar Daga @SunilDaga23 , Dr Adrienne Seitz @aclseitz and Dr Shafi Mallik from Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust @LeedsHospitals with us, with a mix of lectures and interesting case discussions on post-transplant graft thrombosis, Parvovirus B19, BK virus and cidofovir, and the practical challenges of desensitisation.
Grateful to the faculty and everyone who made the session happen.

Recent MoU with Chennai-based Anderson Diagnostics Services Ltd. (ADSL) to set up a centralised Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) facility; collaboration marks a significant milestone in strengthening shared commitment to advancing genomic diagnostics, research and healthcare innovation.
Under a hybrid model, ADSL will provide equipment and specialised staff, while CMC will house the facility, supply infrastructure, and provide full clinical oversight and SOP governance.
The facility will offer germline, somatic, and pathogen testing to speed up diagnostic turnaround times. It will also train CMC staff and students in bioinformatics and wet-lab operations. This initiative supports CMC's broader goal of becoming a centre of excellence in precision medicine.

Mean age ~39 y
56.8% male
BP well controlled (121/81 mmHg)
Still a high-risk cohort:
👉 46.9% had prior immunosuppression
👉 Mean proteinuria ~1.46 g/g
This is real-world IgAN

🏅What stands out in GRACE IgAN is how pragmatic the design is:
✔️ Near-universal RAAS + SGLT2i
✔️ Home BP monitoring for all
✔️ Telemonitoring every 2 wks
✔️ Hybrid visits (in-person + remote)
Plus: in-house dashboard, 24×7 helpline, and strong stakeholder engagement

🕯️ It is with profound grief that we at CMC Vellore mourn the passing of Prof. K.V. Johny — the Father of Kidney Transplantation in India. 🕯️
A giant has left us.
His legacy is eternal.
🧵 A tribute to a legend: 🙏🏻
In the late 1960s, Prof. Kaivilayil V Johny trained in renal transplantation at Adelaide, Australia. He returned with a mission, and changed Indian Nephrology forever.
On 2nd February 1971, Prof. KV Johny & Prof. Mohan Rao performed India's FIRST successful kidney transplant at CMC Vellore — a defining moment in the history of Indian medicine.
He founded the Department of Nephrology at CMC Vellore in 1971 - the first of its kind, and launched India's first DM Nephrology training programme, seeding a generation of kidney specialists across the nation.
Under his leadership, CMC Vellore became the gold standard for nephrology & renal transplantation in India.
He was not just a clinician — he was a builder, a teacher, and a visionary who trained nephrologists who now lead kidney care across India and the world.
"A visionary who opened the doors of kidney transplantation in India and transformed the future of renal care."
Rest in peace, Prof. Johny. CMC Vellore and Indian Nephrology will forever stand on the shoulders of your life's work. 🙏
