French debt costs rising again today. Now above 5%.
I'm not ready to call this a global debt "crisis" yet .. but its certainly a big problem for governments everywhere (including ours).
French debt costs keep rising as riots roll on.
France already has some of the highest social spending in the world with benefits many in the USA would envy.
Unclear how this plays out but markets are edgy.

video from Paris last night just blocks away from Notre Dame from my wife who promptly looked at coming back to Chicago early. Police were called but it took significant time so residents joined together to shoo them away.
Ruchir Sharma dropping some big knowledge - and scary stat - on France:
Its government spending to GDP is 2nd in the world only to ... North Korea. Yes, NORTH Korea.
How do you 'fix' that?
Is France the 2008 Greece 2.0?

Yes I have. Scary situation. Scenes and reports aren't good.
Like here, cost of living is a huge issue. Need a deeper dive on what happened post-Covid that's sent prices for everything soaring.
France is also a country with a growing debt crisis and this won't help.
I'm reading Les Echos for more in-country reporting

Have you been following France? It looks very serious. Just asking respectfully.

Buddy coming to NYC for work just sent me this. Random Tuesday. $1,200+ per night for a generic hotel room. Add another $200 for taxes.
Seems like no brainer to end the ban on Airbnbs and other short term rentals
Immediate help to affordability crisis for folks who could make some coin renting their places once in a while AND boost tourism because who can afford this?
If buildings don’t want tenants to rent out their place .. they can decide on building by building basis.
But a blanket citywide ban just drives up costs for everyone.
Hotel lobby is strong but these rates chase people off longer term.
What am I missing here?

Between AI debt fears, rate moves and a desperate (and, thus, dangerous) Iran/Houthi risk ... markets feel fragile.
Stay focused and stay nimble.
Huge down day for many AI 'darlings' today. Some now 40%+ from recent highs.
CoreWeave bond story is WBSI -- wonky, but super important
