In 2013, Harry Belafonte presented me with the Power Belle Hat Award for my work combating human trafficking. Then he asked: “What are you really willing to do for others?” His question became the title of my 2015 TEDx talk. Years later, my work continues to evolve. His question remains. For such a time as this. #HarryBelafonte #CivilRights #Justice #VotingRights #VotingMatters #HumanRights #Humanity #Civility

On this day in 2011, Georgia executed Troy Davis despite new evidence of his innocence. The evidence was so compelling that three of his jurors urged the government to stop the execution. calendar.eji.org/racial-inju…

Thanks for clipping this Brooklyn! I wasn’t kidding when I posted earlier that Rosemary was firing on all cylinders…it is the best and most informative thing on YouTube today. Go watch it.
Omg it’s a JUDGE. The head judge in Suffolk County. And ALL the Judges that touched this case. This is OUTRAGEOUS. We need to burn this system down and start again

Yesterday, we lost a cherished member of our family. We got Sunny at the start of our second term in the White House, and all of us – including our first dog, Bo – immediately fell in love. We also had trouble keeping up with her, for Sunny was a force of nature. Athletic and full of boundless energy, she leapt over the hedges on the South Lawn like they weren’t even there, chasing squirrels, birds and anything else that moved. And whereas the way to Bo’s heart usually involved a treat, Sunny was more interested in having us run around with her, roll on the floor with her, or have her belly rubbed for as long as we were willing. She loved the girls, even if they were pestering her when she was napping. She loved our team, and would often follow them around, helping them on the job. She was fiercely protective of Bo, who she rightly sensed wasn’t always as alert and attentive as she was. She had her eccentricities: other than Bo, she preferred people to dogs; she was a loud and sloppy drinker; and despite being a Portuguese Water Dog, she hated getting wet. But as far as our family was concerned, she was pretty much perfect, and for thirteen years, she would be by our side – always loyal, always sweet, always ready for adventure, still fiery and gorgeous till the very end of her days. We will miss her terribly, and imagine she’s with her big brother now, making sure he’s okay.

The criminal case involving Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr. is receiving national attention because of his family. The issues raised by the case are not new. Across the country, children are accused of committing serious acts of sexual and physical violence every day. Most of their cases never make national news. Their names are not attached to famous parents. Their families do not have immediate access to cameras, publicists, or platforms. Yet these cases present some of the most difficult questions confronting our criminal justice, juvenile justice, medical, behavioral health, educational, and child protection systems. · What happens when the person accused of harming a child is also a child? · How do we protect the alleged victim without abandoning due process? · When should a child be prosecuted in adult court? · What kind of treatment is appropriate? · Who determines risk? · What responsibility belongs to parents, schools, treatment providers, facilities, courts, and communities? · What happens when public outrage becomes louder than the facts? The Biermann case provides the public entry point. The larger subject is the system. This series does not determine guilt, diagnose children, or predict the outcome of the pending case. It distinguishes public allegations from adjudicated facts and legal questions from clinical ones. Because when children are on both sides of an allegation, accuracy is not optional. The process must protect them both. My analysis is informed by my work as a consultant and trainer for specialized residential treatment centers, where I worked with leadership and frontline staff serving children and adolescents with complex behavioral health, treatment, and safety needs, including sexual misconduct and therapeutic needs. That experience—combined with my work across law enforcement, juvenile justice, residential care, victimization, exploitation, and institutional accountability—allows me to examine these cases at the intersection of conduct, treatment, legal process, and public safety. OUR ASSUMPTIONS CANNOT BECOME OUR EVIDENCE. Today I presented "When a Child Murders: Juvenile Parricide and the Hidden History of Family Violence" for Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) through the Justice Clearinghouse. And the response: 👥 705 registered 👁️ 438 attended (LIVE) 📈 62% attendance rate ⏱️ 62-minute average viewing time ⭐ 9.12/10 rating 📚 95% want more As a WIFLE instructor, I bring together my work in law enforcement, litigation, jury consulting, behavioral analysis, and national media legal analysis to create training that asks professionals to look beyond the headline—and test what we think we know against what the evidence actually establishes. Participants identified some of today's most important lessons: *Remain objective. *Follow the evidence. *Test your assumptions. *Separate fact from feeling. And several specifically identified my L-3™ framework: Lens • Language • Law as a tool they can take directly into their work. One participant summed up today's message perfectly: “NOT TO ASSUME ANYTHING FROM THE START.” That's it. The case may be difficult. The facts may be uncomfortable. The evidence may take us somewhere we did not expect. Follow it anyway. Thank you, WIFLE, the Justice Clearinghouse, and everyone who joined me today. The cases may change. The discipline should not. #WomenInFederalLawEnforcement #WIFLE #LawEnforcementTraining #JuvenileJustice #JuvenileParricide #CriminalJustice #Investigations #LitigationConsulting #JuryConsulting #L3Framework instagram.com/p/DdU5iM0HH_M/…

These past few weeks have been challenging. Some days heavier than most, but STILL I RISE. I REST and I REMEMBER. I've been in this moment before. I took the time to rest, reevaluate, recharge and then I remembered. I AM an original. Not a copy. I will not miss one thing meant for me. Every person assigned to me will be present at the appointed time. Every threshold meant for me to cross will become available when it's time. Every door not meant for me will close. And some will open to either test my faith or teach me a lesson.Every scar is not a wound. Every tear is not painful and every person is not meant to go with me, but every moment is gift. And for every stage and platform that gives me a presence and every person who makes it possible I say thank you. I will make you proud. But if you know me, I'm going to add pressure. 😉 I just can't help myself. 😎 I'm in getting in alignment for the assignment. But trust and believe I will rest and my boundaries are fortified. Thank you to Madam President Bobbie Knight and the Board of Trustees of @milescollege. instagram.com/reel/Dc5tG1cgq…

Two things are true: I had no problem with the Commonwealth bringing the case if they couldn't reach an agreement before hand. There was a murder. I also knew that it was critical for us to have THIS (PPD, PPP, Mental health etc) conversation in the public view now more than ever. I'm not unfamiliar to this specific crime, illness or the work.
