There are 1,300+ AI tokens! - Most sit in AI layers where blockchain doesn't add real structural value - The few that sit in the right layers still can't demonstrate economic self-sufficiency - Where is the opportunity? We break it down in this paper: sunqu.substack.com/p/where-d…

AI is going to kill us!

My thanks go to everyone who put so much effort into the CLARITY Act— across the Administration, Congress, investors, and innovators. Our collective conviction that America must continue to lead is indispensable. I have been unequivocal: with or without legislation, we will act decisively within the SEC’s statutory authority to deliver certainty for American investors and for the entrepreneurs shaping our technological future. Stay tuned.

While I’m disappointed by today’s Senate vote, it doesn’t change the fact that crypto’s fundamentals are stronger than ever. Billions of dollars are moving onchain, leading payments companies and financial institutions are adopting blockchain technology, and entrepreneurs around the world are building new financial products that bring money into the internet age. Our work in DC is far from over. We’ll keep working for clear rules that protect consumers and let entrepreneurs build.

Clarity dead. 50 no votes. Immediately thought og this Bloomberg piece about how crypto supported candidates went 48 for 48 last election (which incl Ds, Rs, incumbents, challengers, shoo-ins, longshots). Personally, I wouldn't piss them off them, but hey, you got to do what you got to do. Nov should be interesting, 15 of the 50 are up for election, according to my quick AI query.
🚨NEW: Several Democrats who have spent months negotiating the Clarity Act, including Gillibrand, Warner, Booker, Warnock, Gallego, Alsobrooks and Cortez Masto, have all voted NO. One industry leader just texted me: “It died.”

Politicians will always be politicians
Vance: We believe that the fed should be lowering interest rates. We feel quite confident that if you look at the inflation numbers, that it's proper and responsible for the federal reserve to lower interest rates

We estimate that the investment boom, in fact is 2x as large than measured in the national accounts. Labor productivity also likely in fact -- post eventual revisions, like in the 1990s -- growing at about 3% this year. But this also implies that the age and extent of the capex boom is also more advanced -- in other words, higher and nearer risks of correction, esp if the Fed plans to hike. Everybody knows that everybody knows that the halving cycle and Uptober coincide this year. Bitcoin has done nothing for so long that it feels stupid to even express a view. With the treasury announcement today and gold rising back from the dead, I am thinking the time to buy bitcoin is now, not later. Pretty easy trade to risk manage. Below 60k it's wrong. Not investment advice. Option leverage is good as IV is super low. If it works, you hold until mid-October or sell at 78k/80k area.

Pivoting
Reminder for when people tell you things are “going well” in crypto- Every large crypto-focused firm either: 1) has pivoted; 2) is pivoting; 3) is dying.

Blue states don't want data centers. I wonder if someone can do the same map but in terms of AI usage. I bet most likely that blue states will have big bubbles.
With some very minor exceptions, the data center buildout is happening in red states (historically some purple but on a go forward basis, red). The data center question is entirely a red on red issue. It’s impossible to build in blues and power is expensive, hence no one is even planning to build there 🚨this is why the left is poisoning the well on datacenters 🚨 They have nothing at stake. Nothing to gain, nothing to lose. They will run the Greta / fracking playbook on DCs. The right must avoid being useful idiots for the left and China at all costs. By all means, debate the merit of the DC buildout. But don’t fall into the slopulist trap of being against them “because everyone is” or because the left manufactures consent via the press and NGOs. The left is not participating in the DC buildout; they should not have a seat at the table. Assume that they will try to play spoiler to ruin what is a massive reindustrialization opportunity in Americas heartland, creating skilled jobs that have been missing for so long. It’s entirely rational for the left to ruin this for red America. Don’t let them.

If I had a dollar for everyone I met in the last 8 months who lost money on DATs, I would have recovered my DATs investment...

While ethereum:0x232ce3bd40fcd6f80f3d55a522d03f25df784ee2 is pumping, it's worth remembering it's a classic VC token 😅. At least 7 funds control roughly 32% of the supply, with linear unlocks starting in about 6 months. Also... the math still doesn't math. How did VCs invest just $68M and end up with 32% of the supply? That implies an effective entry around $212M FDV right? (not $1.5B)

Pretty mind blowing numbers, Micron $MU helping the entire market after hours.

Inflation re-accelerating while chip stocks sell off. Market is pricing two futures simultaneously: AI productivity boom (deflationary) vs. fiscal dominance (inflationary).

"so you staked your ETH on the Ethereum blockchain to earn yield?" "yes, Dave" "except you didn't want your capital to be locked up so you actually staked it with a liquid staking protocol called Lido?" "that's correct, Dave" "and Lido gave you a liquid staking receipt token called stETH in return?" "yes, Dave" "and then you didn't think that was enough, so you juiced the yield even further by depositing your stETH receipt tokens into a restaking protocol called Eigenlayer?" "you are correct, Dave" "and now you didn't want to lock up your capital, so you actually restaked with a liquid restaking protocol called KelpDAO who provided you with a liquid restaking receipt token called rsETH?" "you got it, Dave" "and then that was surely not enough juice, so you then deposited your rsETH tokens into a lending protocol called AAVE so that you could open a leveraged looping position that borrows ETH against the rsETH collateral and restakes the ETH into rsETH which is then deposited as collateral, except it turns out rsETH used a cross-chain bridge called LayerZero whose security is held together by a 1/1 toothpick, which was obviously hacked by north koreans causing rsETH to become undercollateralized and now these looping positions are stuck and unprofitable, and everyone is pointing fingers at each other, and also DeFi is a very serious industry" "you are 100% correct, dave" jfc.
