Started watching a Cold War documentary on YouTube and it’s a bit surreal reading the comments because a lot of them are variants of “who here for their lockdown homework” from 5-6 years ago.

This anniversary feels different somehow. Despite the tragedy, previous ones felt as if we were moving towards something better. Today it just seems like a reminder of how we led ourselves down a very dark path, and it’s hard to see a clear way out of where we are now.

It’s impossible to imagine people reacting the same way if 9/11 happened today. The sense of unity and resolve, however brief, seems like it was really the last gasp of the era before American culture became bitter, distrustful, and hopelessly divided.

The AI discourse leaves me feeling very conflicted because my job has basically become 80% Claude Code and whether I like it or not I am becoming an expert at agentic development, but most people I know are very anti-AI so it feels awkward to talk about anything AI-related.

I think AI absolutely does not belong in the creative sphere (art, music, filmmaking), but it is undeniably a game-changer for software development and things will never be the same now that it’s seeing widespread use.

My stance has been and remains that AI should be heavily regulated and should not have been thrust upon the public for at least another 5 years, but Pandora’s Box is open and I’m left trying to adapt in an industry that is very different now from when I started my career.

Finally got something to be positive about: I landed a new job! Pays 30% more, is fully remote, has flexible PTO, and I get to build cool stuff. Feels like I’ve been searching for something like this for a while and I’m really glad it worked out.

Got some good news: I had bloodwork done a couple days ago and the nurse called with my results and said my diabetes is in remission. I lost ~80lbs from when I was my heaviest over the past two years and it seems to have made a big difference.

First session went better than I thought. Learned a lot about newer psych research and how different events affect how your mind and body process things. Have a treatment plan set up for next session that isn't just "go outside more lol".

Decided to finally look into therapy again and was able to get scheduled with a doctoral psychologist surprisingly fast. I think I’ve hit a point where I can’t really manage on my own anymore so hopefully this leads to some improvement.

Can this entire genre of dumb fuck right-wing grifter vtubers fuck off?
I addressed the rumors about ICE yesterday concerning Filian

6 interviews ending with a rejection email. I had a feeling this might happen after the last one but it still sucks. Back to the grind I guess.

Lately I feel sometimes that I’ve stumbled into some warped timeline where the world is nothing like how I remember growing up. My real day-to-day is fairly normal but seeing how things are online really skews that perception of reality because of all the collective negativity.

I realized that yesterday marks 5 years since my mother passed away. I don’t know if I’ve ever really gotten over that. I never thought that my life would end up like this, but I’m still going to keep on as best as I can. I really miss her though.

I put Willow to sleep today. Her illnesses were compounding and hurting her quality of life and I didn’t want to put her through that anymore. I’ve never had a more loving pet. Her and her 2 children brought lots of joy in my life. I’m really going to miss her.

Finally have an update on Willow. Her kidney values have mostly returned to normal; it seems she’s actually diabetic which is what caused the kidney issues to flare up. I’ll have to give her insulin and get her rechecked on Monday, but for now at least she’ll be able to come home

Vet called earlier with an update. She said Willow is looking a little brighter and is eating good but running a low temperature so they’re keeping her warm. They’re going to test her potassium and electrolyte levels in a few hours to see if they’ve improved at all.

I took Willow to the vet because she’s been losing weight and had weakness in her back legs. They did a blood test and told me that her kidneys are failing and that if they can’t restart them in the next 48 hours I’m going to have to put her to sleep. Pretty distraught right now.
