Back in June, I help my mom clean out her pool shed. There's a strand of old twinkle lights with plastic flamingos. "Throw them out," she says. "They don't work." But I see that the flamingos came off easily, so I start to pull them off. "I can do something with these."

Something I've been meaning to do for a long time is to revisit all the things I was wrong about during the pandemic.
There's quite a bit.
And if this place is going down, well I guess this might be my last chance. So, let's do it: 🧵

A 9yo Black child clearly into science identified a problem harming her neighborhood, researched, found a safe solution, and was testing it. Her white neighbor (who knew her!) called police on her saying a “small Black woman wearing a hoodie” was doing things and scaring him.
A NJ resident called police on a 9-year-old Black girl using a homemade spotted lanternfly repellant to try and stop the invasive species from harming trees in her neighborhood.
The girl's mother and sister described the ‘traumatic’ experience at a local council meeting.

We got it wrong and I am sorry.
Hybrid immunity is not real. Immunity debt is not real. Our vaccine only approach has cost 2000+ Queenslanders their lives and disabled many, many more.

National election days are stark reminders of the injustice of the nearly 700,000 DC residents, who pay the same federal taxes as residents of states, having no voting representation in Congress and only limited, revocable local self-governing authority.

What’s that word we used for forced labour without consent, again?

Thank you for bringing this to wide attention. One thing, though, the "immunity debt" explanation is conjecture and isn't particularly robust. The other hypothesis is that COVID infection impacts the immune system in kids. Given the stakes, probably worth presenting that too.
