Sadly gone at 86, Patrick Stewart was a piece of work like no other man. A commanding, spirited actor with a joy for life, he was, by my estimation, Star Trek's greatest captain. Picard elevated every scene, breathed life into every speech and made nobility, humanity and kindness cool. We're lucky he gave us so much of himself.
