Guys it’s official! I have received my first PhD acceptance with a TA offer!!! No matter what my other applications say, I am getting a funded PhD in Musicology!!!
Check out the new issue of Jazz and Culture!
In "Playing Changes" @PantheonBooks, Nate Chinen observes that many narratives of jazz history present the music as a linear trajectory of progress, from its roots to canonization as a high art. @SuperlinkJ12 reviews in @culture_jazz 8.2. @MichaelCHeller

Indiana University is hosting what I believe is the first-ever academic conference entirely dedicated to Taylor Swift. PhDs, grad students, and Swifties, submit a proposal!

Pics or it didn't happen! Here are some highlights from GAMuT's 10th Annual Graduate Student Conference last Saturday. Thanks for joining us on this exciting day!
Come out and see our conference! These papers are great, our speaker is awesome, and I’ve put in so much sweat with the planning committee to make this happen!
Super excited for this conference! (Not just because I’m Vice President and am a conference co-chair). The papers are truly excellent!
Got one of those gimmick printed hurdy gurdys that you gotta put together 😂 I’m no good at it, and I messed up a bit on the drone string, but the mechanics are there. It even came with rosin, despite using fishing line strings. Still, it was a fun project to do! hard to turn tho
All I’m saying is that the internet should know by now that when I type in “UNT catalog” I never mean the course catalog, only the library. Yes, it’s my fault, but if AI is gonna take over the world someday, I at least want SOME benefits.
This was such an amazing experience!
Many thanks to the UNT Library and @UNTMusicLibrary departments for giving our GAMuT members a tour of both wonderful Special Collections! We had such a blast and enjoyed exploring the materials deep in our own archives.
Yeah I’m working on a conference/journal paper so extremely close to this. Glad to see I’m not crazy.

So my first round quals essays were about 4 pages single spaced each. If I did all that from memory, why was I ever worried about an 8-10 page essay for a class? 😂 I wrote each of those quals essays in 2 hours with decent citation accuracy. (Decent for memory that is.)
QUALS WEEK. Montpellier Codex and Stile Moderno Trio Sonata tomorrow, Debussy and Symbolism on Tuesday. I defend all three essays on Friday. Wish me luck!
Send me your abstracts 👀
CALL FOR PAPERS. If you are a graduate student, please consider submitting an abstract for our annual student conference on February 4th, 2023! The deadline for abstract submission is October 15th, 2022. See info👇 mhte.music.unt.edu/gamut#con…
