Apropos to nothing, here is a what I can only assume is a crocodile screaming into the darkness . . . Same girl, same.
Super fun to have this work published after years of hard work and great learning on Mt Kenya and at NC State!
In 2015 @Suyian4Science rediscovered the lost route that Teddy Roosevelt's team took to survey the mammals of Kenya in 1909. We then set camera traps to see what species survive today - check out the results in our new video youtu.be/x629xmVZ4yM
Really cool conference happening in Windhoek, Namibia this fall hosted by Southern African Wildlife Management Association in partnership with Giraffe Conservation Fund! Go see big perspectives for the future of Southern African conservation! sawma.co.za/conference/?fbcl…

Incredible effort by this team to survey such an expansive area so intensively. Unfortunately, I fear that reports of disappearing top predator populations like this are only going to increase until we commit to much more concerted conservation efforts.
Out today! Dunford et al. carried out a comprehensive survey to detect any remaining Arabian leopard populations in Saudi Arabia, concluding there are most likely no surviving, sustainable populations of the Critically Endangered subspecies in the country🐆doi.org/k6j8

I can't count the number of arguments I've had with people over what the term "theory" means within the scientific community.
Replying to @GreenAlJe
@GreenAlJe presenting really cool results to a full house at #IMC13 about coyotes switching to blueberry resource pulses and thereby increasing dawn survival rates! @MammalMeetings @IMammalogy
Geospatial analysis in R workshop at #IMC13 @MammalMeetings by @LisannePetracca and @amandacheeseman. Lots of new handy skills for pulling GIS into R!

I have a presentation coming up and as I outline it I am reminded that my visual artistic ventures should be left to the more talented. I am looking to include a couple of methods figures related to my drones and wildlife. Does anyone know good sci-artists I can collaborate with?
Cool breakdown of climatological impacts on population patterns in northern Africa! Great maps!
Many people have asked me about the possible wildlife career benefits of volunteering and voluntourism. I have experienced both from the inside and was able to share by perspective with Dr Stephanie Manka in this interview. Listen in if you want to learn more!
New podcast out! I chatted w @Suyian4Science about voluntouring, volunteering, and working in several countries throughout Africa. He shares his insights and advice on his experiences, what to look for in programs, how to make decisions and more!

Maps twist our perception of the world
Here are 20 to rethink it:
1. Countries closer to the equator (~poorer) seem smaller than they are

Can we think beyond PA's and empower citizens to actively participate in conservation in India? Can there be more than just one model of conservation? Time to decentralise and democratise conservation in India.
Wicked cool behavioral interactions and combined vigilance! Make sure to watch the visual abstract on the link. Oxpecker and Rhino team win!
Oxpeckers might help rhinos evade poachers!
"Alarm-calling by oxpeckers significantly improved the rate and distance that rhinos detected [human] approach from 23% to 100%"

The Wild Dogs of Laikipia were my favorite animals to see in any context as they gallivanted across the landscape. The canine distemper epidemic was such a tragedy for the population but as Dr Woodroffe states, life goes on. RIP WDF124
Finally said goodbye today to WDF124, alpha female of the Crocodile Pack 1/6 #TeamWildDog
