i had a creative writing professor who gave the opposite advice. the brain eventually stops noticing the repetition of “said” which allows you to easily imagine the conversation. specific verbs can be intrusive and distracting and should only be used when absolutely necessary

Extroverts talk too much, interrupt constantly, overshare, force conversations, hate silence, invade personal space, put people on the spot, and mistake being loud for being interesting. The worst part is expecting everyone to match their energy & calling u boring when u do not.
I dislike introverts who need to be told everything multiple times when in a group setting. You have to keep offering them food, try hard to engage them and check on them to ensure they are ok. They will just sit quietly in a corner and you will never know if they are ok or not, or if they are upset or need care. I hate doing that labour for them.
Like dude you can talk, you are normal! You are an adult, not a child. Please emote, talk and let others know what you want or don't want. Be a part of what's going on and don't kill the vibe by just disconnecting with who's around you.
Sincerely, an extrovert who always puts that effort.

i love this answer because the easiest way to become a creative person is to stop asking whether you are one and start making things. creativity is a verb before it’s an identity. you become creative by creating

In 2021, The Simpsons' most reclusive writer from its golden era did an interview and in the middle of it, he gave one of the best writing tips I've ever heard. Like it's legitimately something I still think about and utilize all these years later.
This section in the wonderful Mike Sacks interview with John Swartzwelder is the most revelatory thing I've ever read about the writing process. newyorker.com/culture/the-ne…

One thing I want to share in honor of my mom: if you have long term issues with acid reflux please know it can put you at risk for esophageal cancer and get checked out. We had no idea and I don’t think many people do.

"Reading before bed makes you sleep faster" is the biggest lie ever. Clearly, nobody who says that has ever picked up a genuinely good book.

The year is 2050. The world has ended and you're the only person left. But you don't know it bc you spend all day inside, posting on Twitter, where you interact with bots who slightly rephrase what you say. "Brownies are yummy!" they say to your tweet about how you love brownies.

Uh no—please don’t do this.
1. Uploading a full book is feeding copyrighted material into a commercial system. Many authors are actively fighting this exact thing.

maybe enough time has passed now where I can admit that when I walked out of my viewing of the barbie movie in 2023 I was like "why did they let ryan gosling steal the show as ken in this movie about womanhood" but at the time it felt too antifeminist to say. BUT HE DID STEAL IT
