This verifies and extends the results that have been produced many times now, strengthening the case for systematic trend. My own studies on long only stock and ETF portfolios have shown similar results. Entering with a trailing stop produces what this piece describes as a Darwinian effect. concretumgroup.substack.com/…

Fascinating read!
We analyzed nearly 1.8 million trades to show that trends can be traded profitably, even when entries are decided by… a coin flip. Inspired by our recent conversation with @basso_tom, we replicated his original random-entry experiment using more than four decades of futures market data. Contrary to conventional wisdom, we find that a trend portfolio built on purely random entries can deliver compelling results, gross and net of costs. Want to hear more from Tom? Leave your email in the article to be notified as soon as our interview goes live. As always, you can visit the link in the first comment for the full piece 👇🏻

Highly recommended listening!
This episode with Suhaimi Zainul-Abidin, the CEO of Quantedge, is genuinely memorable. I think it's one of the best recordings I've ever had on Top Traders Unplugged. You don't want to miss that one!

Value stocks (+24%) are now outperforming Growth stocks (-6%) by over 30 percentage points in 2026. If that holds, it would be a record spread, even wider than what occurred in 2000 when the Dot-Com Bubble burst. Is this the beginning of a major shift in market leadership?

When the Trends Turned October was a reminder that trend following gives back through the same mechanism by which it gains. The ATS Classic Trend Benchmarking Portfolio fell 6.95% as reversals spread across bonds, metals, grains, equities and currencies. Energy resisted the turn, contributing +5.62%, but all seven system families finished lower. The full report examines where the losses came from, how the portfolio responded, and what the interactive trade playback reveals about positions that remained open through the reversal. From $3 million in 2006 to almost $8 billion today! Quantedge has built quite a remarkable track record while keeping a relatively low profile. @moritzseibert speaks with CEO Suhaimi Zainul-Abidin about the firm's journey and investment approach. The rules are the guardrails. They keep me on track. They don't guarantee every trade works. Far from it. I'm still going to take losses. But they can help keep one bad turn from sending the car into the wall.

New Research Ideas! "What held real value when inflation was high" 👇 ⠀ Since 1919, a US 60/40 portfolio lost money after inflation in both high-inflation regimes, -0.2% a year in stagflation and -1.3% in overheating, against 9.0% in all other months. Trend following earned 13.5% and 7.4%. ⠀ Campbell Harvey, with Panashe Bera and Kristina Hooper of Man Group, label every month from 1919 to 2026 with signals built to be known at the time. High inflation is CPI above the 75th percentile of its last 10 years. Weak growth is industrial production below its 10-year trend. ⠀ Gold, since 1975, earned 9.4% and 14.2% in the two regimes. An equal-weight mix of seven US equity factors earned 7.1% in stagflation. ⠀ My reading is that this argues for structure, not timing. The averages hide large differences between episodes, there are no tests, and the authors say it does not establish a switching strategy. The trend series is Man Group's own. ⠀ papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.… ⠀ Join +3000 subscribers --> noaxcapital.com/newsletter

In the stock market... Down 4.5% days happen about 1% of all days, on average about twice a year. Down 9% days happen about 0.1% of all days, on average about twice a decade. Most of these occur during an established downtrend (were not in one...yet!)

"Hello Mr. Minervini. Today you have the ability to do serious damage to yourself. Keep that in mind, now get to work." The morning ritual of the two-time U.S. Investing Champion Mark Minervini (@markminervini) on why a 30% win rate still makes money, why he never bets on a fundamental idea without price confirming it, and the one sin that kills amateurs and pros alike. He won the championship in 1997 and again in 2021, with 334.8% in the $1M+ division per the championship's record, breaking the championship record for most gain in a single year. Separately, Jack Schwager profiled him in Stock Market Wizards for his 5 year run of 33,554% audited gains. "In all the time that I've been doing this, I have not found another way of avoiding a big loss other than taking a small loss." We cover: - The first account, $32,338 from selling his recording studio, and the 33,500% compounded return that Schwager had audited, by his own account - Reward to risk at 2 to 1 minimum: "my batting average can come all the way down into the 30% range and I still don't lose money" - Why losses work geometrically against you: down 50 needs 100, down 90 needs 900 - "The cardinal sin is most traders don't cut their losses. Amateur and pro alike" - "You do not manage money in hindsight. Risk has to be managed in real time" - Why diversification only spreads the risk: "when you get a bear market, everything goes down". Why he starts 25% invested and scales up only on profits - The 6:05 train: how he knows a trade is failing before the stop is hit. "If it's happening on schedule, we stay with the trade" - Why everybody isn't rich if the setup goes back to the 1800s: "Because it ebbs and flows", and why the tough times are boot camp - The year he stood outside a brokerage every day to check quotes, and the Twitter replies that called it a lie - The 7 years he spent losing money before he not only unlocked profitability, but also an insane run of performance. - His rule for gurus: if somebody tells you how to make $10 million, "my first requirement is that they actually made $10 million themselves" - "Dream audaciously. Dream unrealistically. And act independent of the good opinion of others" Thank you @markminervini for coming on Titans of Tomorrow, and for inviting us to your annual Gala. it was a true pleasure. $BRK.B gained 4% today in a 3+ standard deviation move. Berkshire’s now up 17% since the start of October Factors are factoring
Call me crazy but Berkshire looks pretty explosive here; been dead money for the last year. If the AI music stops (not saying it is quite yet), it’s hard to imagine $BRK.B doesn’t outperform. They’re buying shares, Greg’s personally buying shares - seems like a great place to park some cash.

Does Buying the 10 Strongest S&P 500 Stocks Work? Today, we are trying to answer this question. Momentum is one of the most widely documented effects in financial markets. Stocks that have performed well over the past several months often continue to outperform, at least for some time. This has been documented in backtests going back for a century. In this article, we test a portfolio that invests in the 10 strongest S&P 500 stocks based on their historical momentum (using certain criteria). We rank the stocks monthly, replace those that lose their momentum ranking, and use a long-term market filter to reduce exposure during unfavorable market conditions. We use historical index constituents to avoid survivorship bias and include delisted stocks in the backtest. Let’s look at the trading rules and historical results! 👉 (This is a momentum rotation strategy, not a traditional trend-following strategy with stop-loss exits. Positions are sold primarily because they no longer qualify under the monthly ranking and eligibility rules.) Does Buying the 10 Strongest S&P 500 Stocks Work? We got the following equity curve: Performance ⚫ No. of trades: 1091 ⚫ Average gain per trade: 7.2% ⚫ Average winning trade: 19.3% ⚫ Average losing trade: 8.5% ⚫ Average #days per trade: 58 ⚫ Win ratio: 56% ⚫ Profit factor: 2 ⚫ Annual returns (CAGR): 22% ⚫ Exposure/time in the market: 77% ⚫ Risk-adjusted return: 28% (CAGR divided by time spent in the market (.77)) ⚫ Max drawdown: 30 The result is impressive. However, the best period was before the year 2000. After that the returns drop to just over 16% (but still impressive, if you ask us). These are the returns per year. Want More Backtested Trading Strategies? We publish rule-based trading research, systematic market observations, and new trading strategies for traders who prefer evidence over opinions. "Most individuals would accept some measure of risk for the returns that they provide. As long as you survive a 15% drawdown, it’s fine. It’s just volatility. Why should we intentionally depress risk, and harm long-term returns, when actually you can bear more risk?" #nodps #maxCAGR #noSharpeworld @moritzseibert open.spotify.com/episode/5do…
