Two things the U.S. should thank Black folks for: 1. Building this country. 2. Not justifiably burning this whole country to the ground.

Imagine if a sitting Republican senator said voters should reject Jon Ossoff or Josh Shapiro because they reject Jesus. That would be a big story. This won't be because Islamophobia from powerful Republicans is simply the norm. It's why there's no comparison between the level of Islamophobia and the level of antisemitism in America today. Only one is actively promoted by the state. peterbeinart.substack.com/p/…
Moreno says El-Sayed can’t be a senator because he doesn’t understand that Jesus came here for our salvation.

You might be the softest man alive.
To describe Marc Chagall as anything other than a Jewish artist or to celebrate neighborhoods like Brighton Beach and Rego Park but not describe their Jewish character are just the latest examples of the Mayor's relentless, pathological campaign to erase Jews from the story. He does it so often that one has to assume that this is not ignorance or accidental, but a deliberate effort to normalize antisemitism and marginalize Jewish New Yorkers. It’s despicable.

the cheesecake factory discourse a back to the future reminder of what 2008-2016 was like on here. Obama makes funny joke revealing he's like the average American (fluent enough in gaudy chain restaurants to jest about a specific chain). GOPers decide it means he's not #oneofus. This goes on for days...

Great project, great thread
So a few years ago I started a side quest where I searched for neighborhood murals in NYC. When I found one I took a picture. When I heard of one, I traveled there by subway bus or foot and took a picture. There were 3 rules: 1. It has to include a direct reference to the actual neighborhood. So "Welcome to Williamsburg" counts, but "Williamsburg Bagel Factory" doesn't. 2. It has to be an artistic representation of some sort. Painted murals, sculpture, digital display etc. A plain sign doesn't count. 3. It has to be semi permanent in nature. No posters. So here was the first one in my collection, Astoria Queens:

Elon Musk is without a doubt the most grotesque example of extreme wealth being mistaken for virtuous genius that I’ve ever seen, no contest. A dude whose business empire has had the exceptional luxury of upwards of $38 BILLlON in government contracts, loans, subsidies, and tax credits that lectures us on government waste, fraud, and abuse. He takes a literal fucking chainsaw to government aid, while hundreds of thousands die from the lack of access, and simultaneously engorges himself at the public pig trough of endless money. He then takes the grift cash to buy elections, outright rig them, gains extraordinary access to the backrooms and convinces panting sycophants that he’s “fighting the establishment.” He IS the establishment. Years and years of missed deadlines, self driving promises just around the corner. Spectacular theatrical marketing presentations presented as new technology, with an army of ball riding zombies to explain why his latest failure is actually evidence of 5D chess wizardry. All in line to be the friend he doesn’t have. He was emailing Epstein to find about the “wildest parties” on child rape island, and you people still clamber. Speaking of mouth breathing followers, the cult surrounding him is even more disturbingly dangerous. Every glaring contradiction becomes an insult worthy misunderstanding. Every dumb comment is a masterpiece. Every legitimate totally fair criticism becomes proof that the questioner is stupid, jealous, or secretly working against humanity itself. It’s so blatantly a cult. At what point does this bizarre admiration become deliberately and completely giving up independent thought? You can acknowledge the success of his companies and the remarkable engineering feats without cosplaying that he’s some infallible prophet. And give his employees some credit. He’s a trillionaire with huge political influence, a pretty pathetic appetite for public attention indicative of someone that’s insecure, and a documented history of promise after promise that he doesn’t deliver on. Please, don’t confuse money with intelligence. They rarely go hand in hand. Also, realize that proximity to great power is not synonymous with moral authority. The truth is historically the opposite. And for fucks sake, stop worshipping people who wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire.

This topic bugs me because hugs and kisses are supposed to be rooted in love and fondness, right? So why would you even feel comfortable forcing someone to do that? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? The person's comfort should always be more important than your need for a hug

I think MLB owners are just going to have to come out and say: “A salary cap benefits us financially and that’s why we want one.” Any other reason they’ve presented is provably false. The Athletic’s analysis shows from 2022–26, payroll explained just 17.2% of the variance in regular-season winning percentage. Even measuring cumulative spending over five years, that figure only reaches 31%. Spending clearly matters, particularly when sustained over time, but its influence is considerably more limited than the owners’ rhetoric suggests. Competitive balance has actually improved under the current CBA. There were 34 team-seasons with 95+ wins or 95+ losses from 2017–19, compared to just 18 from 2024–26. This season also had the sixth-tightest distribution of winning percentages since 2003. I think the most interesting finding is that market size explained almost nothing statistically about a team’s performance. That’s a significant distinction when the league is framing its argument around the structural disadvantages of small-market franchises. Even MLB executive Morgan Sword acknowledged that a salary cap wouldn’t necessarily produce more playoff appearances for smaller-market teams and argued that it doesn’t need to. That’s a damning admission when you’re asking players to accept restrictions on what teams can spend on their labor in the name of “competitive balance.” There are legitimate problems with the current system, particularly owners collecting revenue-sharing payments without making a serious effort to compete. Greater accountability and spending requirements would address those concerns far more directly. The owners are proposing a fundamental restructuring of baseball’s labor market despite evidence that competitive balance is improving, market size has little relationship with winning and their preferred solution might not improve competitive outcomes. The burden should be on ownership to demonstrate why a hard cap is necessary. This analysis makes that case difficult to defend.
Competitive balance sits at the heart of the fight that will soon shut down MLB. So @TheAthletic took a deep dive into what the state of parity in MLB really is. @enosarris ran the numbers, the league and union were interviewed — and two takeaways stood out. Unlocked: nytimes.com/athletic/7716072…

The Knicks' assistant coaches did not receive their championship rings during Tuesday's ceremony, despite being handed ring boxes, according to league sources. Many longtime employees at Madison Square Garden will not receive rings at all, per team sources. Those employees got their hopes up in late September, when they were sent a fake championship ring offer as part of a phishing test. nyti.ms/4jB0yvR

These big oafs always ready to body slam a woman 1/3 their size. Incredible
Concerned residents packed the Utah County Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday after it unanimously approved a widely unpopular data center ordinance without allowing public comment. Police quickly moved on concerned residents – including swarming one young woman, dragging her out of the room, and slamming her onto the ground. The woman was left with a concussion and a bruised and swollen jaw. She spent the night in the ER after being released from jail. An emergency rally was called for Wednesday in response to the brutality. Community members are demanding the termination, arrest, and prosecution of the offending officer – identified as Phil Crawford.
