Signs are generally seen before the age of three, but some children show signs of autism in early infancy. Autism now impacts 1 in 36 children. The term “spectrum” in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to the wide range of symptoms that people with ASD experience. A diagnosis of ASD can include Asperger syndrome, autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder.
