Tottenham's counter-pressing is impressive.

Tonali is exactly what de Zerbi needs. He can drop between the CBs to help with the build-up, position himself behind the first line of the press to link up with the advanced players higher up the pitch, and intelligently shield the defenders in the defensive phase. He complements Fernandes really well, as Fernandes is a ball carrier but is also capable of playing deeper. That rotation, thanks to their similar skill sets, should create a positive synergy. If you look at what de Zerbi requires from his pivots when it comes to playing through the press, Tonali ticks all the boxes. As for the price, it’s not for me to judge, but downplaying Tonali’s abilities is a little unserious

Those anti Archie Gray takes are going to age terribly, I suggest #that section of the fanbase go ahead and delete them.

De Zerbi sometimes inverts the right-back (Gray), positioning him symmetrically in the half-space alongside the midfielder when Chelsea defend in a medium-block 4-2-4/4-4-2. This provides easier access into the attacking third while creating additional passing connections in central areas. Robertson advances higher to maintain width alongside Tel, often occupying the attacking third. The structure is comprehensive from a possession perspective, as it not only supports progression with the ball but also prepares the team for the defensive transition after losing possession

This Brighton team and manager are so good man. They're literally 3 January signings away from guaranteeing CL football next season 1 higher quality Right Back and 2 good rotation options for whatever positions they need them in

I am finally on YouTube! Pleased to launch @Thinkingtactics, where I will analyse specific tactical topics and occasionally post scouting videos. I believe that it's the right time to get on YouTube as I'm confident with my core knowledge and think I can share valuable insights to a larger audience. I posted my first video today as well. Would really appreciate any feedback and support. Links attached below.

I think Chelsea, overall, offered more interesting elements in their play, but Liverpool were really good at protecting their penalty area. That’s a well-developed, temporary concept within Iraola’s approach, given the attacking quality at his disposal. I think Iraola is currently operating at maybe 50% of what he ultimately wants to achieve and will eventually turn this team into. The draw was a fair result

Ryan Gravenberch is trusted at Liverpool despite a turbulent start to the season, Andoni Iraola has said. Ahead of a Premier League clash against Arsenal, Iraola admitted that while it has not been an ideal campaign so far for the Netherlands international, he is in no doubt about the midfielder’s quality. 📝 @adjones_journo nyti.ms/4BSEvaL

Iraola: Winning helps a lot, we have had five wins in a row but only two are in the league. We need more wins to recover points. We aren't where we are in terms of needing to improve a lot of things, but when you can win games while doing that that's nice

Iraola: It's true we had a good result with Bournemouth (v Arsenal) but it doesn't mean a lot now. There are different players and we have to use different players and use players as we can and trust them. It's a matter of winning the duels, running more than them, winning the aerial duels, winning the set-play mini-games. Arsenal are in a good place

James McConnel is a CM who is being asked to play as a 10. Hasn't had a proper run of games to form a relationship/chemistry with his team mates yet but here we are already seeing "fans" write off his career. Modern Football fans are idiots.
I love academy players, We need to give them game time and show patience and support That said sometimes you have to be kind and allow them to go and forge a career for themselves Unfortunately it doesn’t look like McConnell is going to make it?

Gakpo is extremely frustrating - should be less timid for a man of his size, and his end product is too unpredictable. Should never start for a team with aspirations of being great, but in fairness, he is a good man to bring off the bench. Has to be a squad player and no more.

Well if we learned anything tonight it's that Nyoni is our most valuable CM alongside MacAllister. Wirtz to complete the trio and Dom back in at RB and we're in good shape. Renew Virg, but the rest of the Dutch lads can go, they aren't bad players they're just not up to it.

Watching the #Spurs game for the second time, and I’m doubling down on my take: Trey Nyoni is a £100m player, and I genuinely believe he could transform Liverpool’s season. His performance from Tuesday will probably feature in the thread as well. What a player. Absolutely phenomenal talent, with an incredible understanding of the pivot role #Nyoni

36 year old Jordan Henderson is playing football at Anfield and he hasn't been the worst midfielder on the pitch.

The games against Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid show that the only way to control the opposition with the ball is to defend man-to-man, forcing them into duels. Against Brighton, top team, there was no last-call effect, so Liverpool opted to defend deeper in the second half.

Why isn’t pressing his strong suit in this moment?

Against Villarreal, I noticed some very concerning signs from Cody Gakpo out of possession, which resurfaced on Sunday against Brighton. While most of the team generally adapted to the opposition’s rotations and structural changes, Gakpo repeatedly failed to track his man in a man-oriented marking/pressing scheme. A thread illustrating how poor execution of basic individual responsibilities can undermine the effectiveness of the entire team on the pitch. 🧵#LFC

There was so much footage that I didn’t know what to choose from, but to avoid appearing biased, I selected what I felt was representative of yesterday’s match and the one against Villarreal

Deep runs. Brighton struggle to track late runners. I saw it against Arsenal, and on top of that, their organisation immediately after losing possession is poor. They rely on counter-pressing, but that’s exactly why we shouldn’t try to play through them with short passing combinations. Instead, we should look for long balls into space for the wingers. This is a game tailor-made for Barcola

Macca has been an excellent signing overall for LFC. Very cheap in this day and age and has proved to be a valuable member of prem league winning squad. He was awful for one season where there was plenty of mitigation. But I struggle to see how ward and Co justify giving him a higher wage then he’s already on given his age and Milage in legs. I think we will sign a younger version in summer. I think Macca will see out his contract and we will be fine with it too. But then again I think a lot .. #LFC
