lol this paper is what happens when we get rid of peer review

4/6 Writing from scratch: given MinAtar game rules and code, Astra wrote a Breakout network's weights in a single reply.
With zero training or tools, it scored 20× higher than PPO trained for 500M steps!
THIS. If you can’t even explain it in your own words, then how could you possibly take responsibility for the work?
New blogpost: my lab's AI policies and norms.
I'm trying to figure out how researchers should make use of AI to accelerate discovery without letting it replace human understanding or falling off the "slop cliff." Here are some ideas.

What is TMLR doing under a 300% increase in submissions?
- Suspensions of >150 authors
- Publicly naming major violations
- Submission quotas distinguishing slop patterns
- Desk rejections 6% → 53%; focus on clarity
- AI reviews evaluating soundness

they should call the third party evaluators scythes
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so.
Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training.
