In just 6 weeks, you can lower lactate and heart rate for a given running speed. Now you are fitter to run the same speed for a lower cost. Training to do this just needs to be there consistently (2+ times a week). But it does not stop because you improved, Keep it moving.

Totally!!
Truth! The vast majority of Ironman athletes, even up to quite competitive paces will be walking at some point in the Marathon. Best to practice it! And... Most of those who refuse to include walk breaks during the race would be quicker if they did!

Don’t obsess over being the best just focus on being the best at getting better.

This- totally 👇🏼
Say it with me... You don't need to finish a session feeling like crap in order for it to do any good. In fact, the crappier you feel, the less good is being done!

True story
After you've done a few, it can be easy to forget/lose perspective on this... "An older guy of 40+, who *finishes* an Ironman under 17hrs is likely fitter than 98% of 40 y.o guys across the country! This puts ‘Iron fitness’ into true perspective." alancouzens.blogspot.com/201…

This 👇🏼👏👏👏
I am always shocked at the number of bizarre things people do to "optimize" their health and longevity and yet they don't exercise regularly, sleep 7-9 hours, eat fruits and veggies, build intimate bonds and community, or ever relax. They obsess over the 0.1% but not the 99.9%.

And it’s why we’re delighted that the @EstynHMI report into education services in #Cardiff published today, says that in recent years we’ve demonstrated a sustained improvement in the quality and effectiveness of our education services.

THREAD: A good education can transform lives. That’s why we’ve been working hard to improve standards across #Cardiff It’s why we’re investing £284 million (on top of the millions we’ve already invested) in new and improved school facilities (like these) over the next 5 years.

Time restricted athletes have a significantly *poorer* #AerobicBase than top athletes training multiple hours per day. Therefore they should be even *more* mindful of taking the time to lay a solid foundation before adding intensity.
Replying to @Alan_Couzens
Even time restricted athletes?

Contrary to popular thought: * Training makes you tired * Sleep makes you fit! Good tips here on how to get fitter through better sleep: 1. Caffeine/Alcohol ❌ 2. Go Dark ✅ 3. Hot then cold ✅ 4. Consistent wind-down routine (hot bath, yoga, read) ✅ = 😴
Quality sleep in endurance sports is key for performance. Here's how to up your recovery game. bit.ly/optimal-sleep-recover…

YES!!
If you want to run faster then ultimately nothing replaces commitment, hard work and essentially training more, eating well, sleep and being happy. Dress it up or down but buying shoes, watches and Strava will not make any difference without the basics…

This. Hard work is the ONLY shortcut
Anyone who says hard work doesn’t matter much it’s all about genetics and luck and situation is full of it. Anyone who says genetics and luck and situation doesn’t matter much it’s all about hard work is also full of it. People like this-or-that narratives but they rarely exist.
