ALT World Pancreatic Cancer Day is November 19 — and knowing the risk factors is a first step. Some are in your family history: inherited genetic mutations, and a family history of pancreatic or other cancers. Others build over time: smoking, alcohol use, obesity, diet, age, diabetes, and chronic or hereditary pancreatitis. The Heather Cutler Foundation is Atlantic Canada's trusted voice for pancreatic cancer and a proud member of the World Pancreatic Cancer Coalition. Learn the risk factors, and what we're working to change.

The bottom of the image features a 40th anniversary badge reading “1986 to 2026, 40 Years” with a maple leaf, alongside the message “Join us on May 6th celebrating Hope Air’s role in helping Canadians reach health care far from home.” The Hope Air logo and website hopeair.ca/hopeairday appear at the bottom. The overall colour palette is blue and white, consistent with Hope Air branding. The image highlights the real impact of medical travel support for patients in rural Newfoundland and Labrador communities.

ALT Infographic slide titled “Modernizing Clinical Trials in Canada” with the subtitle “The Heather Cutler Foundation’s Vision for Better, Faster Pancreatic Cancer Care.” The slide is dated April 2026 and features a bold dark purple zigzag line graphic rising upward, symbolizing progress and upward momentum in Canadian health policy. The Heather Cutler Foundation, a registered Canadian charity based in Newfoundland and Labrador, created this presentation as part of a formal policy submission to Health Canada regarding proposed changes to Canada’s clinical trial regulations. The submission focuses on improving access to clinical trials for pancreatic cancer patients in Atlantic Canada, particularly those in rural and remote communities who face significant barriers to treatment. This work was produced through the Foundation’s Pancreatic Cancer Policy Builders of Tomorrow program, a student-led health policy research initiative. The design uses clean white space and dark purple typography.

ALT Infographic slide titled “Guaranteed timelines and smart trial management.” Three recommendations from the Heather Cutler Foundation are presented side by side with accompanying icons. First: “Enforce a Maximum Timeline — Commit to a defined, maximum review timeline for high-mortality cancer trial authorizations to allow hospitals to plan effectively,” illustrated by a calendar icon with a padlock. Second: “Support Adaptive Trials — Clarify how protocol amendments are handled under whole-trial authorizations for complex, fast-changing oncology trials,” illustrated by a branching arrows icon representing flexibility and adaptability. Third: “Allow Partial Suspensions — Ensure that if one trial site experiences a safety pause, patients at other Atlantic sites are not needlessly cut off from their treatment,” illustrated by a network diagram with one node paused. This slide outlines the Foundation’s concrete policy asks to Health Canada regarding the modernization of clinical trials.

ALT Infographic closing slide titled “The path forward.” Text reads: “The Heather Cutler Foundation formally submitted this guidance to Health Canada in April 2026. We will continue to advocate for a regulatory system that sees, counts, and saves patients — no matter where they live.” A call to action box states: “Read the full policy submission and join the fight for equitable access at heathercutler.ca.” The right side features an abstract dark purple circular graphic with a radiating glow, resembling a beacon or focal point, symbolizing focus, purpose, and sustained advocacy. This slide closes the Foundation’s April 2026 policy presentation on modernizing clinical trial regulations in Canada, representing the organization’s ongoing commitment to health equity for pancreatic cancer patients in Atlantic Canada, rural Newfoundland and Labrador, and underserved communities across the country. The Heather Cutler Foundation is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to improving access.
