Another recent event of a busy summer! Some of our staff attended @Natures_Voice Bempton Goes Wild 2026, acting as data hub for the event. There were a range of fantastic species seen & recorded - from this tiny Acorn Weevil to a mighty Minke Whale seen from the headlands 🌊

We attended Hassacarr Nature Reserve's activity day last week, just a stone's throw from our office in Dunnington. We set up some of NEYEDC's audio recording equipment, a camera trap, and moth traps to help survey the site. We had some very inquisitive visitors!

Every year, NEYEDC supports small numbers of bioblitz events, acting as a data hub to collate and manage records made on the day. A few weeks ago we attended the Swinsty Reservoir bioblitz led by Yorkshire Water, along with our moth traps, to support the event 🔎

With the warmer weather starting up again, it's been a great opportunity for some local moth trapping. Our EDO Hannah has been trapping at Hassacarr Pond Nature Reserve in Dunnington and caught these beauties this morning - Beautiful Hook-tip, Silver Y, and Smoky Wainscot 💡

It may not be good for barbeques & beach trips, but grasslands and wetlands are flourishing in the wet weather. Last week our surveyor was lucky to visit two damp pasture sites near the Lancashire border which were awash with wildflowers & an impressive range of sedges!
