APPEAL FOR HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT
Rescue, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Flood-Affected Communities in Nepal
The devastating floods in Nepal’s Bhotekoshi river on 26 August 2026 caused extensive loss of life and property, severely affecting families and communities across the flood-affected areas.
In response to this humanitarian emergency, rescue and relief operations are under way, alongside efforts to support the rehabilitation of affected communities and the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure. Friendly countries, international organizations, Nepali citizens, Non-Resident Nepalis, foreign nationals, and well-wishers in Nepal and abroad have continued to extend financial support to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
To facilitate contributions from India, arrangements have been made for donations to be deposited through the bank account of the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi. subsequently remitted to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
The Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi therefore makes a sincere appeal to Nepali citizens residing in India, Non-Resident Nepalis, associations and organizations, business communities, friends of Nepal, and all other well-wishers to contribute generously to this humanitarian effort.

DNA Profile Matching for Missing Indian Nationals
Following confirmation from authorities in the People's Republic of China that they are now able to receive DNA samples for Indian nationals listed as missing following the devastating mudslide and flash flood of August 26, the Embassy of India in Beijing requests the families of Indian nationals who remain missing, to submit DNA samples to assist in the identification process. The following may be noted:
1. Families willing to provide DNA information are requested to submit the relevant data, in the internationally-recognised CODIS format, to the Embassy of India.
2. The Embassy will forward the data to the concerned Chinese authorities for comparison.
3. The Embassy will be notified, and will in turn inform the family, should a match be confirmed.
Requirements for DNA Sample Collection
I. Scope of Relative Blood Sample Collection:
4. Priority Collection: Blood samples from the parents of the missing foreign national; blood samples from the spouse and children (samples from multiple children should be collected wherever possible).
5. Supplementary Collection: If the missing person has no living parents or children, kindly collect blood samples from siblings (collecting samples from all siblings is preferred); if necessary, collect samples from other maternal relatives (e.g., cousins on the maternal side) and paternal relatives (e.g., cousins on the paternal side). In all such cases, details of the relationship may be specified.
II. Sample Storage Requirements:
6. DNA STR data for the aforementioned samples is required; for males, Y-STR data must also be included. Data should be stored in the internationally recognized CODIS format.
7. Please label DNA samples using the following format: "Nationality + Name and Passport Number of Missing Person + Name and Passport Number of Family Member + Sample ID Number."
