After meeting with hundreds of UPS Teamsters this morning in Topeka, Kan., Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) spoke directly with Shawnee County Department of Corrections workers represented by Teamsters Local 696. Joined by Teamsters Central Region International Vice President Danny Avelyn and Local 696 President Michael Scribner, O’Brien and Sen. Marshall heard from Shawnee County DOC workers about the issues that are most critical to our members. By fiercely championing the cause of the American worker and Teamsters key legislative priorities, Sen. Marshall secured the endorsement of America’s strongest union in this year’s U.S. Senate election in Kansas. “The Kansas economy would grind to a halt without the hard work and commitment of thousands of Teamsters across the state,” O’Brien said. “Sen. Roger Marshall understands the value Kansas Teamsters bring to the table. He has shown up for our union through thick and thin. He is the exact type of leader that Kansas workers need in the U.S. Senate. The Teamsters are proud to have Sen. Marshall’s back in this race, just like he has had ours.”

Early this morning, Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and U.S. Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) were in Topeka, Kan., meeting with UPS Teamsters. Alongside Teamsters Central Region International Vice President Danny Avelyn and Local 696 President Michael Scribner, O’Brien and Sen. Marshall walked the belts and spoke directly with hundreds of members at a UPS facility in Topeka. Sen. Marshall has championed key Teamsters legislative priorities including co-sponsoring the Faster Labor Contracts Act and the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, which earned him the endorsement of the Teamsters in his race for re-election for U.S. Senate in Kansas. “It’s more important now than ever that we have leaders in the halls of power who are willing to go to bat on behalf of rank-and-file Teamsters,” O’Brien said. “And the Teamsters Union has had few friends greater at working across the aisle to pass commonsense pro-worker legislation than Sen. Roger Marshall. With your help, we’re going to ensure Sen. Marshall continues the fight in the Senate to pass bills American workers need most like the Faster Labor Contracts Act.”

385 OIL REFINERY WORKERS IN NEW JERSY LOCKED OUT  Members of Teamsters Local 877 at the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery were locked out this afternoon after rejecting the company’s latest offer, which includes concessions that would undermine workers’ hard-earned gains. These 385 workers are essential to the operations of the largest oil refinery on the East Coast. Despite the critical role they play in keeping the refinery running, Phillips 66 has refused to offer meaningful improvements to wages, health care, and safety protections, while pushing concessions on the very workers who keep its operations running.

At the Teamsters 29th International Convention, Teamsters raised $1.5 million to help brother Travis Bornstein launch Tyler’s Redemption Place. Since then, the organization has helped countless people recover from addiction, rebuild their lives, and break down the stigma surrounding substance use. Thank you to every Teamster who donated and who continues to help make this work possible. This is what solidarity looks like.
