If it actually does snow, that gives everyone time to plan their lives…by the time the snow/ice clears, I’ll have new life goals to execute. Lol

As someone who has done interviews with companies like AT&T cybersecurity (level blue), Akamai technologies, Palo Alto networks, Toyota, Live person (software dev company), Stryker, JP Morgan chase and some other smaller companies, don’t joke with your fundamentals in cybersecurity.
I passed some and I failed some. I have also gotten offers in Senior SOC role (2022), Secops Engineer (2022), GRC specialist (2023) and now Appsec specialist (2025). I can tell you for free, you can’t escape the fundamentals. If you skipped them before, go back to them now.
I lost count of how many times ports and protocol questions slip in, DNS, DHCP, policies, privacy topics. There is no excuse to skip basics of data privacy. I don’t pentest but I learnt the basics especially if you are like me who like to move around in different cybersecurity fields 🤷
Invest in a good cv. CV is your first impression to a recruiter who doesn’t even know about cybersecurity. Cumbersome cv stresses my brain, imagine someone not in the field. I use resume.co atimes to adjust my cv.

1 thing I’ve learned within tech/cybersecurity is you can’t be lazy.
You’re constantly learning, adapting, and staying curious. You can’t let up in this field.
I was sad about losing free access to Udemy after it expired with ServiceNow but now I have free access with WGU. Yay 🖤

cybersecurity is not easy work.
GRC is not a shortcut into the industry; it’s an excellent starting point only if you have direct coaching and real education behind you. not mentorship. coaching and education.
somewhere along the way, the internet made it sound like GRC is just policies and checklists. it’s not.
modern GRC requires technical literacy. understanding cloud. mapping controls. reading logs. assessing vulnerabilities. translating frameworks. knowing how systems actually work. even AI governance requires you to understand the technology beneath the model.
i’ve never had an “easy day” in cybersecurity. not one.
every day requires problem-solving, critical thinking, risk translation, and real work. that’s what this field is.
if you want to grow in this space, start learning the skills that matter: technical fundamentals. frameworks. control families. cloud concepts. risk quantification. tooling. AI and emerging tech.
this is the reality.
not: if you’re interested in exploring GRC or AI governance, i teach the subject matter and provide coaching.

Can we discuss more resources, training opportunities, tech news, investments or positive promotions of successes?
I’m tired of y’all take on degrees, certs, etc. these conversations have been dragged out too long. Everyone’s journey is not the SAME!
