Thanks @dgoldman627 for a fun conversation. Topics: the $24T capital math behind AI compute, why inference is a whole memory hierarchy problem, why the spec is now 90% of chip design, a Steve Jobs decision story, and token mills. Worth a listen.
Every gigawatt of AI infrastructure costs $50–60 billion in the West. China's target? Under $10 billion. New episode of TechSurge: gaming chip legend @RajaXg (Founder & CEO,@realoxmiqlabs) joins host @dgoldman627

I joined David Goldman on @CelestaCapital's TechSurge podcast to talk about the race to build the next trillion-dollar AI chip company. The main idea we dig into is that no one has yet brought a chip to market designed specifically for LLMs. Blackwell is a GPU that morphed toward the workload. Nobody has yet stood up a gigawatt of clean-sheet LLM silicon, and that gap is where the next trillion-dollar chip company comes from. We cover: • Why AI infrastructure now sells as full systems, and how Nvidia got to rack scale first • Prefill vs. decode, and why the SRAM bets Groq and Cerebras made years ago suddenly paid off • How neoclouds built $125B+ of public-market value while most investors missed them • Circular financing, and why I land on the demand being real • My four conditions for the next trillion-dollar chip company • Clean-sheet architectures: @OpenAI's Jalapeno, @TensordyneInc's log math, @Etched's low-voltage inference • Why enterprise and on-prem inference could end up bigger than the cloud Full episode: youtube.com/watch?v=bXNJU3Rh…

A few years ago, @rkhemani Barun Kar and I sat down at a Warriors game. By the end of the night, we had a plan to build a blockchain company together. Today, @velaura_ai has raised a $110 million Series A at a $1B+ valuation led by Seligman. @CelestaCapital led the first round, together with @NavinChaddha at @MayfieldFund and @fgthiel and MARA joined us. Along the way, our original thesis evolved into ultra-low power generative AI solutions. What has carried it from there to here was the underlying innovation: squeezing more computation out of every watt. Velaura's platform delivers 2-4x improvement in performance per watt, and the underlying technology has already shipped in more than 30 million production ASICs. As Chairman, I have had a front-row seat as Rajiv and the team turned that technical strength into a platform spanning the data center and the physical world. The road from that game to here was not a straight line, and there is more to build. Congratulations to Rajiv, Manu Gulati, and everyone at Velaura. The photo below is from those early days. 12 of the 15 most valuable companies in the world are hardware companies. Two decades ago, pitching semis emptied the room. That contrarian conviction is what @LipBuTan1 brings to @intel every day. Great conversation with Michael Marks on TechSurge.
Silicon Valley was built on chips. Then VC spent 20 years betting on software. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan joins Michael Marks on why he kept betting on semiconductors, and why AI has put hardware back at the center of everything. New TechSurge episode: youtu.be/FtxWTNaUXkc?si=e5Ze…

Lip Bu on memory from the Deep Tech VC Podcast (~30:00) 'I used to [not] invest in memory because it’s kind of commodity business, right? But now [it has] become different. There’s a lot of new technology come out. So we are kind of looking… one of my pet projects is looking [at] some of the memory new architecture. And I think you just saw the news — I hire my good friend Seok-Hee Lee. He used to run SK Hynix, right? So you kind of know something that I’m thinking about. We’re not ready to unfold it.' $INTC youtu.be/FtxWTNaUXkc?si=lETi…

What if sending something to space cost the same as a FedEx shipment? Launch costs have fallen from ~$50,000/kg to a projected ~$200/kg. @ariel_ekblaw explains why that changes everything. 🎧 Full episode: techsurgepodcast.com/

The next semiconductor bottleneck may not be a fab. It may be the minerals that make the entire supply chain possible. We have rightly focused on TSMC, ASML, and advanced manufacturing capacity. But critical minerals are another concentrated layer of risk.

India's semiconductor ambition isn't new. It dates back to 1962. Over six decades of effort, from the Semiconductor Laboratory in Mohali to early work with ISRO, driven primarily by strategic needs. What's changed now is the scale of the ambition.
