The second chapter from The Rivers of Amerikay. Book 1 of The Book of Crusoe Walker: The Ghaney I Ain't, He Says, I Ain't, Old Kid, And I Would Pinch ' Em If I Did It was nearly a year since we had destroyed the second Cibola, less than that since Bear-Named-Bear had ripped the throat out of the last of the Harpey brothers and my uncle, Toby Walker, was nervous - something I'd never seen in him before. We were waiting to meet old Addis Walker, the man who was called Songo by all of the Prithees and most of the family. There were three of us - Toby and his wife, Maddie, and me - and we were expected for dinner with Songo and his almost-new wife, Rebecca, on board the Melancholie Jakewees, the very big and very elegant riverboat that had been my grandfather's home (and mine) since Butterfield the Assassin had burned down the Panopticon the year before. At first, it had not been planned to be a dinner but, instead, a meeting between Songo and Toby. Then, because it was to be the last day of the old year, Rebecca who was as kind and good as she was beautiful and tough insisted that Maddie who was very pregnant at seven months be included because she wanted to - well, because she wanted to share as much as she could in the coming into the world of her first grandchild. At the last minute, I'd been added to the list of those who would dine. My father, Darby, had returned to the Tionesta along the Ghaney to spend Christmas with old friends and I'd gone back with him. Unlike the rest of the Walkers, I'd never been an outdoorsman through and through and though I could take down a deer with my rifle at least as well as all of them, I'd never learned to like field dressing one. So, I'd decided to leave Tionesta early in order to spend First Night with my friends in Nimishillen. It was late afternoon when I'd gotten back to the Jakewees, and the sky was glooming gray and snow was spitting. I was tired, cold, wet and hungry and I'd been on the Ghaney, alone in my kayak, for a day-and-a-half. Except for the guards, I saw and spoke to no-one as I hauled myself and my pack filled with Christmas presents - maple candies for the grown-ups and a painter-skin covering for the coming baby - up to my cabin on the Texas.

Good woman.
A stranger suddenly grabbed a four-year-old boy from a playground and took off running with him as the other children watched in terror. But the boy wasn’t the only child in danger. Five other young children were still on the playground, and the stranger’s terrifying actions were far from over. It happened in Prince George, British Columbia. Daycare worker Chelsi Sabbe was watching six young children when the man suddenly snatched one of the boys and began running away. Without hesitating, Chelsi chased after him, jumped onto his back, and put him in a chokehold until he fell and released the child. But instead of fleeing, the man grabbed another boy, this one just five years old. Chelsi fought him again, striking him and knocking him off his feet before pulling the second child to safety. She desperately tried to gather all six children together, screaming for help as she moved them toward the playground equipment. But the man wasn’t finished. He came after a little girl next. This time, he began punching Chelsi repeatedly in the face and head as she fought to keep him away from the children. Despite being injured, she managed to knock him down and restrain him again, giving the children time to get away. The man eventually fled, and police arrested him nearby. Thankfully, all six children escaped unharmed, while Chelsi was left with bruises from the terrifying confrontation. Chelsi could have run to safety herself, but she refused to leave those children behind. She stood between them and danger again and again, determined to protect every single one. The internet is full of stories about people doing wrong, but we need more stories about people like Chelsi Sabbe, who risk everything to do what’s right. Let’s make sure her courage gets the recognition it deserves.

Perhaps Vance did it to save his own political skin, perhaps because he felt brat he was right and it had to be said. I'm tending towards the latter
🚨🇺🇸 The White House met Wednesday morning to get everyone on the same page after the midterms... Vance left the meeting and wrote his own Per a source talking to Fox, the plan coming out of the morning huddle was one administration-wide story about the loss. What the public got instead was the vice president, on X, saying the war did it and that Republicans have to rethink Israel. By afternoon Trump was calling the post “largely true,” which spares him a fight with his own deputy but confirms the deputy is now speaking for himself. Vance has spent two years as the most loyal man in the building. Breaking script on day one of the aftermath, aimed at the voters who feel the war betrayed them, is the behavior of someone who thinks the next election is already under way and that the West Wing talking points are no longer the ones that matter. I see some people are upset I said America is over and the American Dream is dead. I really do believe it. The thing is, and I have respect for older generations of America…. But many older people and even some Gen Xers refuse to recognize that the America we live in today, the America we are voting in today is not the same America our parents or grandparents grew up in. We now have an environment in which about half of the nation is actively organizing and voting against America, against our sovereignty, against our culture and against our values. There has never been a time before in our country where half the nation votes for communism and Sharia Law. This isn’t just another election where we move on when the other party loses. The parties are not the same. Many who claimed to be in the GOP have developed Woke Reich, Neo-Nazi like views and a lack of reason which makes them blame all of life’s issues on Israel, and then the other half of America, the Democrat Party, has a base who is also consumed by conspiratorial brain rot which has made them GOTV for communists and jihadists who openly call for America to be destroyed. So when people say: You are being too dramatic and they say it’s just another election, I tell them they couldn’t be more wrong. This isn’t 2008 pre “fundamentally transform America”. No. We are officially past the point of “fundamentally transforming America” as Barack Hussein Obama, the father of the DSA, set out to do in 2008. We are already fundamentally transformed, and when he used the word transform, he meant destroy. I would appreciate if people would recognize this because I am not a quitter. I have fought tirelessly. But we need to be realistic. If you refuse to name your enemy, you will never defeat it. If you refuse to accept reality, you will never see it.
I hate to say it, but America is over. The communists and jihadists are going to open our borders and replace our votes with votes from illegals aliens. We now have reps who openly speak about their hatred of America, their love of communism and their support for sharia law. We won’t be able to undo the damage they cause on our country come 2028. America 250 was a funeral. The American Dream is dead.

It was George Lucas who first said all of this about Anakin-maxxing (NYT, 1999): "The United States, especially the media, is eating its own tail. The media has a way of leveling everything in its path, which is not good for a society. There's no respect for the office of the Presidency. Not that we need a king, but there's a reason why kings built large palaces, sat on thrones and wore rubies all over. There's a whole social need for that, not to oppress the masses, but to impress the masses and make them proud and allow them to feel good about their culture, their government and their ruler so that they are left feeling that a ruler has the right to rule over them, so that they feel good rather than disgusted about being ruled. In the past, the media basically worked for the state and was there to build the culture. Now, obviously, in some cases it got used in a wrong way and you ended up with the whole balance of power out of whack. But there's probably no better form of government than a good despot."

I know there are a lot of people here who pray. My best friend’s husband was taken to the hospital today and they were told he has maybe a week left. I don’t want to go into detail but they have three children, their youngest is 13 and the oldest is in college and flying home to be there. It’s unbelievably difficult and it’s hard to even know what to say, but I do believe prayer is powerful and can give comfort and strength where there is none, which they need so much.

Exactly! When I grew up in Communist China, I was surrounded by completely brainwashed people, including myself. Now in the US, I’m surrounded by people even more brainwashed than the communists I grew up with in China. Communism thrives on a dumbed-down population. And the dumbing down is systematically carried out through schools, the media, and Hollywood!
When I grew up in the USSR, I was surrounded by people who were completely brainwashed. Now, when I live in the US, I’m surrounded by people who are even more brainwashed than communists I grew up with in the USSR. It’s insane.

It was rubbish then, and it's rubbish now. I'm an orthodox Catholic, not a MAGA evangelical, but I'm struggling to recall where Jesus advocated abortion, or the Apostle Paul sang the praises of sexual depravity, or the Christian tradition promoted transgenderism and spoke about "neighbors with a uterus". My parents are MAGA, and we have polite disagreements about political and theological differences. But they are among the most charitable, giving, and godly people I know, helping out countless neighbors and strangers over the decades in ways big and small. All while working 60- or even 80-hour weeks. But they and countless others like them are the bad guys. And Talarico is the saint. Got it.
I wrote this in March and MAGA evangelicals treated it like heresy. Yet it's exactly what I heard time and again in Texas, from Texas Christians. nytimes.com/2026/03/08/opini… "Talarico is one of the few openly Christian politicians in the United States who acts like a Christian, and by acting like a Christian, he reveals a profound contrast with so many members of the MAGA Christian movement that’s dominated American political life for 10 years."

It is so obvious to anyone without a hardened heart. No brainer. Repentance is our only Hope.
No justice can exist in a nation where the most innocent--unborn children are killed. If the innocent are expendable, everyone else is too.

Here’s what people need to understand: my daughter couldn’t care less about the Muslim Brotherhood or transgender people. She voted on the fact that her and her husband had to DROP THEIR HEALTHCARE during this open enrollment because they can’t afford a $900 monthly premium and a $6000 dollar deductible. They are only insuring her so they can have another baby and are praying her husband and one year old don’t get too sick. So no, she couldn’t care less about Muslim’s in Minneapolis or Congress. She doesn’t care whether a person has a penis or a vagina. She doesn’t care whether her neighbor is documented or not. She doesn’t care about Iran or Israel or Ukraine. Her worries are in her home everyday knowing she can’t provide healthcare for her son. So every elitist who wants to say we are doomed, the country is going to change, be scared of this, etc. She doesn’t care. And until the everyday life of the average person improves and families have breathing room and can afford a home and health care, this is what we are going to get. The Republicans are SO out of touch about what actually matters and they deserved every bit of this.

This is the first time in forever that I have ever posted something from another site, but this gentleman’s calm and collected discussion about how he feels is exactly how I feel. The line has been drawn in the sand for me on continuing to allow extremists who hate everything about this wonderful country who has given so many people opportunities, and now instead of being respectful and grateful they’ve decided to destroy it and I’m looking at you, Barack Obama and everybody like you.

Let this serve as a mandate that Ohio—and, by extension, the nation—is not looking for technocratic, weak-kneed “conservative” billionaires to lead it. The mandate is clear: new-age conservatives who support restrictions on both legal and illegal immigration, reject neoconservatism, and demand a return to a manufacturing and energy-focused economy rather than turning the Ohio River Valley into another Silicon Valley. Bashing American culture and hard working, blue collar Ohioans on X is not a winning message. A return to normalcy, perhaps through a brand new approach to economics and culture, is desperately needed. Republicans must nominate the best, most conservative candidates in future elections, rather than whichever technocrat can buy his way onto the ballot. Ohio is a state filled with youth and promise, and that promise cannot be squandered by an aging consultant class that does not understand what young adults experience daily. America First.

Interesting take on what happened.
I don't claim to be an expert in human behavior, but I've watched Trump for 11 years now, and I'm pretty good at pattern recognition. I noticed something in his demeanor today that should give his enemies pause: He's way too quiet about what happened last night. Quiet Trump is scary Trump. Think about it. Leading up to the 2020 election, this man told us over and over that the Democrats were going to steal it. And when they did steal it, he never stopped talking about it. The same goes for the Russia hoax, the impeachments, the Biden border fiasco, and the relentless lawfare against him. You name it. He has spoken out loudly about the wrongs done to him and to our country. Last night Republicans lost their majority in the House and Senate, as well as the governor's seats in Texas, Ohio, and other red states. It was an epic beatdown, if we're being honest. And the Democrats' margins of victory are FAR greater than the wins they put on the board in 2020. Anybody with basic math skills can see they cheated. Nobody gets close to 1 million more votes in a midterm election in a RED state than Kamala got in 2024. And then the pattern repeats across multiple states? I mean, come on. And what did Trump do? He congratulated them on prime-time TV. And in every media appearance all day. And he never said a peep about cheating. Not even a hint. That's odd. If the Democrats have any sense (and I'm not sure they do), they would take this as a very bad sign. I can count on one hand the times I've seen him this way. And the outcome never ended well for his enemies. The thing about an apex predator is you never know when they'll strike. But if you know what to look for, there will be signs. Democrats, here's your sign.

EXCLUSIVE: According to a Senior WH official, Susie Wiles and top White House aides are leaking damaging information about Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to the media. “They intend to scapegoat Hegseth for the Republican Party’s devastating midterm defeat, in an effort to save themselves. Susie Wiles understands that the base wants to see a high level firing, but she intends for it not to be her. This is despite Susie having handpicked the majority of the Republican Senate candidates and lying to Trump about the polling in the weeks leading up to the election. Susie Wiles is chiefly responsible for yesterday’s catastrophic loss.” Follow: @AFpost

Truth be told the Republican Party deserved to lose Midterms miserable, they’ve delivered absolutely nothing they promised - Cost of living is horrible - No Voter ID or election reform - Mass deportations are disappointing - Healthcare costs are outrageous - They ran on accountability and didn’t hold a single person accountable - They didn’t codify any of Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts - Inflation hasn’t gone down - We’re in another war - Jeffrey Epstein files weren’t fully released - Still impossible for young people to own a home, mortgage rates didn’t go down - Trump even talked about abolishing the income tax then no follow up Some of these things take time and can’t be fixed overnight of course, but the Republican Congress and Senate didn’t even acknowledge any of these issues. They didn’t even try to pass anything to help Americans Of course you still have to vote Red because the alternative is Democrats who are insane and want to open the border, install communism and side Muslims who want Sharia Law… The point is, the current Republican Party is awful and delivered nothing
