Another remix video going viral on IG, while @tiktok_us throttles it because their AI deemed it “unoriginal”. It was doing numbers for 20 minutes straight before it got pulled from the algorithm. TikTok you gotta figure this out, 3rd time it’s happened to me.

Spotify killing Car Thing is less surprising to me than the fact anyone ever actually paid good money for Car Thing. There was zero chance that was ever going to be a viable product for them.

After probably 10 years or more, my Audio Technica M50x headphones have finally broken. Before I just go buy another of the same model, I figured I'd see if anyone has any amazing recommendations for over-ear headphones. (1/?)

-wired connectivity (if wireless is also available then great, but a wired connection is non-negotiable) -over AND AROUND the ear (hate the pressure on my actual ear for hours on a plane) -handles loud volumes without distorting -comfortable ear pads Any recommendations?

I originally bought them for studio monitoring but I have much higher quality headphones for that now, so I mostly use them for travel - watching movies on planes and such. So I don't necessarily need them to be amazing for music production, but I do need: (2/?)

What a crazy unexpected day. Somehow got 1.8 million views on a TikTok, grew 2000 followers, got DM’d by several eyebrow-raising people, and that’s just the highlights. Who knew that would all be so exhausting 😅

The speed at which the TikTok I posted last night is currently going viral is wild. Imagine telling someone 10 years ago you could get 150k views in 2 hours because an algorithm picked it up. The dopamine hit from this is real and cannot be mentally healthy.

As an A&R I agree 100%. If I recognize a vocal sample in a demo submission as something I’ve heard on splice or in other tracks, it’s a lot less likely I want to sign the track. Splice is good for some things, but most vox on there are too overused.
Honestly when it comes to pitching labels in 2024, splice vocals create more problems than they solve IMO

you’re given a prime slot at one of the biggest festivals in the world and even if you employ someone to help you prepare the set, not having the “time” to look over the export and then blame everyone else aside from yourself live on the mic is dickhead behaviour, you deserve people to be outspoken about it i won’t even get started on the copied AI visuals or the “there’s a million other people who deserve that spot” conversation

"Tidal and Apple Music pay more than Spotify" No. You're just confused. What you think is a dunk on Spotify is actually a flex for them. All of these platforms have the same basic payout setup, it's just that Spotify listeners are SO MUCH MORE ENGAGED that it drives the per stream rate down. This is (kind of) a good thing. They all do ~70% of subscription revenue split pro-rata with all songs, and they all essentially have the same subscription fees of $10.99/mo US premium. The main factors that affect payouts: 1. Where You Listen: A subscriber in India pays less than an American one, so a US stream pays more than one in India. Spotify is growing far faster than global competitors in emerging markets, which tends to bring down the per stream rate. 2. What Plan You Have: Spotify allows freemium (ad-supported) users, plus has bundles like Duo & Family6 which really bring down the per stream rate. Apple is premium only - but also have bundles. They all do. But, Rob...even Spotify premium in the US is lower than Apple - what's going on? This is where #3 comes in. 3. How Much People Stream: Platforms don't *decide* how much a per stream rate is. They simply pay it out pro-rata (by proportion of total streams). Since they all have the same basic fees & structure, the level of engagement significantly affects the rate. Spotify listeners stream far more than other platforms. This brings the per stream rate down. It's a flex, not a knock. And listen - I get it. The system is wildly broken & feels unfair, but it's important to actually understand what you're talking about when pushing for change or improvement. The main culprit here is pro-rata. We should be using fan-centric. We should have higher subscription fees. We should connect artists more directly to fans. We should provide more ways for artists to monetize. But, understand.. This passive consumption game only works at scale. We need to focus on new models that increase fandom, connection & music's value. We need to value artists. Not just "content".

You don’t think the masses already know about Ultra Miami? A massive music festival in one of the biggest party cities in the US that occurs during spring break every year? Are these people ok? 😂
Do ppl not understand that it’s not that Alix is THERE it’s the fact she’s POSTING ABOUT IT? She posts about products and they sell out in an hour. Do you wanna pay Eras Tour prices to see your favorite DJs or do you enjoy being able to afford a show every weekend?????

Since you’ll hear about it in the news… It’s not fuel, it’s hydraulic fluid. The 777 has three hydraulic systems; losing one isn’t such a big deal. Now, why is Boeing & United specifically having such a hard time? They aren’t…you just don’t know this stuff isn’t that unusual & only certain stories get published. Did you hear about the United Airbus with a hydraulic failure? What about the United Airbus w/an engine oil warning? Surely you heard about the American Airbus that landed with a cargo door open! The Alaska 737 that had the same thing got a LOT of coverage… And who could have missed the Delta Airbus with a flight control malfunction! Oh…you didn’t hear about those? That’s weird – I wonder why they didn’t get coverage? I mean, they all happened in the last three days… It’s almost as if someone is choosing what you hear & what you don’t based on how worked up they can get you & how much advertising they can generate. Don’t let them. They will sensationalize stuff that people who work in this industry consider mundane – in part, because they don’t know better & because they are counting on you not knowing, either. (Thanks to @avherald for their coverage - the source of the pics. They report these incidents w/o bias & understand these things are not a sign the sky is falling)
A flight from Australia to San Francisco took off with fuel coming out of the rear landing gear 😳
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
A fuel leak from the landing gear is improbable, since the Boeing 777 has no fuel lines routed through the landing gear. The nature of the leak has not been confirmed by United, and claims of a fuel leak are speculation. cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/n… This link contains a diagram of the fuel system. faa.gov/lessons_learne…

This is facts. Almost every opportunity I’ve ever gotten has come from asking for it rather than waiting for someone to volunteer it
I always tell people cold reach-outs and "shooting your shot" is one of the most important aspect of the music industry.. following up on those reach-outs is as important tho
