Palestinian calls for freedom must not be criminalised.
The Victorian Coalition has pledged to ban “globalise the intifada” if elected in November, continuing a dangerous pattern of restrictions on Palestine solidarity.
“Intifada” means “shaking off” - an uprising against oppression. Globalising that call means international solidarity through protest, boycotts and political pressure.
Recasting solidarity as inherently violent weaponises Palestinian language and silences demands for justice.
APAN opposes this proposal. Protecting communities from racism must go hand in hand with defending peaceful protest and political expression.

For the first time, an Australian court has heard expert evidence linking Pine Gap to Israel's atrocities.
Prof Richard Tanter tendered a 34-page report to the Alice Springs Local Court in a case involving protest action at the facility.
The report details why it's "likely" the US spy base assisted Israeli forces as it slaughtered civilians en masse in Gaza, as well as in its attacks on Lebanon and Yemen.
