Ciao Romina ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ, and thank you, as always, for your significant contribution to cinema, and to Italian cinema in particular. This film marks the directorial debut of Elio Petri; though not widely known, it is as memorable as everything else the director went on to create. It is an introspective crime film, a fake "giallo" really, with clear echoes of Hitchcock and Kafka. Yet, that is merely the surface. In truth, the director presents a harsh social critique, targeting the vices and degenerate behaviors of the average bourgeois Italian of that era: a person obsessed with the mirage of social climbing during the economic boom. As is always the case with Petriโ€™s work, it is a political film; in this case concerning the absence of a collective social conscience. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
