8-6-1994, 1st game I remember being at. Was the day game of doubleheader with Indians. My favorite player of all-time, John Valentin, went 5-5 with 5 RBI in the Red Sox 8-4 win. Otis Nixon had 3 hits, a walk & stole a base. Chris Howard pitched 4 innings in relief allowing 1 hit.

Happy 55th bday to the greatest pitcher I've ever seen, @45PedroMartinez! Going to Fenway when he pitched was an event. Upper 90's, best change in the game & a filthy curveball that was his 3rd best pitch. 1999-2000 was 41-10, 1.90 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 12.5 k/9. AL East, steroid era.

Happy 71st bday Danny Darwin! Broke into the Majors in 1978 & pitched through 1998, just shy of his 43rd bday. From 1980-90 he had a 3.37 ERA. Led NL in ERA & WHIP in 1990 with the Astros. In 1993 with the Red Sox he was 15-11 with a 3.26 ERA & AL best 1.07 WHIP. (Cont 1/2)

Pitching with what was likely a torn rotator cuff, Smoky Joe pitched less often in 1915 but led the AL in ERA, going 15-5 with a 1.49 ERA. He then retired due to pain. #STUD Made comeback with Indians as an outfielder & hit .297 with .806 OPS in 5+ years. .366, 1.000 OPS in 1921.

Happy Birthday Larry ! Did you play for John Winkin? I’m thinking Billy Swift was a few years ahead of you. I played 3 yrs in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Stayed a couple winters. Ed Flaherty, coach of U of Southern Maine, allowed me to work out with his team. I loved Maine!🦞🥣

Darwin was dreadful in 1994 & 95. At 40 years old, surely his career was over. Right?! No, he got another chance with the Pirates in 1996 & put up a 3.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP in 19 starts before a trade back to Houston. Put up a league average 100 ERA+ in 1997 at age 41.
