France has reported the first known human case of the Shamonda virus, in a severely immunocompromised patient who later died. The virus, usually found in farm animals and spread by tiny biting midges, was not previously known to infect people. So should you be worried? In this explainer, we break down what happened, how the virus spreads and what French authorities have said about public health risk. Virologist Dr Gagandeep Kang puts the case in perspective: there is no evidence of human-to-human spread, and such infections in immunocompromised patients are not new. Watch for the key facts, without the panic. #ShamondaVirus #Shamonda #HealthNews #MedicalUpdate #PublicHealth

Does fertility drop after 30? In this clip from Doctor vs Internet, @Sonal_MK and Dr. Sankalp Jain break down how age impacts egg quality, chromosomal defects, and miscarriage risks according to European case studies. Although a woman carries millions of eggs at conception, only around 400 to 500 are utilized over a lifetime. Over time, egg quality drops due to chromosomal defects, making miscarriages more likely. While farm fires have dropped to a 5-year low, Delhi's winter air pollution continues to reach severe levels. A 2024 IIT Delhi study reveals that during the Diwali period, fireworks account for roughly 85% of elemental PM2.5 pollution, compared to just 4% from stubble burning. Combined with weak winter winds, vehicle exhaust, and industrial emissions, this festive surge creates a toxic air cocktail that strips at least 8 years off residents' life expectancy | @Sonal_MK #DelhiPollution #StubbleBurning #Fireworks #DelhiAirQuality #DelhiSmog #AirPollution #FirecrackerBan #CleanAir

As Mumbai's air pollution levels rival and at times surpass Delhi's, a court-ordered ban on firecrackers addresses only a fraction of the underlying crisis. The city suffers from heavy baseline pollution created by relentless construction dust, vehicle emissions, industrial output, and weak post-monsoon winds that trap toxic pollutants. Firecrackers merely add another burst of smoke to an already hazardous atmosphere. Lacking systematic response frameworks like Delhi's Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), public sensitisation, and political urgency, Mumbai remains critically unprepared to fight its rising air quality emergency | @Sonal_MK #MumbaiAirPollution #DelhiVsMumbai #MumbaiAirQuality #AirPollutionCrisis #Mumbai #ToxicAir #FirecrackerBan #ConstructionDust #AQI #CleanAir

Sunny Deol's upcoming film Suryaa has sparked controversy over its portrayal of doctors and alleged medical corruption. In a video circulating on social media, a doctor has strongly criticised the film's trailer for allegedly portraying healthcare professionals as dishonest and showing violence against doctors, nurses and hospital staff. The doctor has also questioned the National Medical Commission's (NMC) silence and called for a ban on the film, warning that such portrayals could further damage the already strained patient-doctor relationship. What do you think? Should films face restrictions over their portrayal of healthcare professionals? #SunnyDeol #Suryaa #SuryaaMovie #Doctors #MedicalEthics #HealthcareIndia #NMC

95% of zero sperm count diagnoses are NOT permanent. Many men with zero sperm count (azoospermia) are told nothing can be done. But in reality, only 5% of cases are congenital (from birth), the remaining 95% are acquired due to lifestyle triggers, blockages, or endothelial issues, making them completely reversible. In this clip from Doctor vs Internet, @Sonal_MK and Dr. Sankalp Jain unpack the truth about male fertility, why premature IVF isn't always the answer, and what clinical steps to take before giving up hope. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Oct 21 invoked Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the entire National Capital Region (NCR) after Delhi’s air quality deteriorated to the ‘Poor’ category, a day after Dussehra. According to the CAQM order, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI), which stood at 179 in the ‘Moderate’ category on October 20, rose sharply to 244 at 2 pm on October 21, entering the ‘Poor’ category. Forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) indicate that air quality is likely to remain poor over the coming days. #Pollution #Delhi #aqi

Your lab report carries a doctor’s name and signature. But did that doctor actually review it? The alleged “ghost pathologist” scam suggests some diagnostic centres use a pathologist’s name or credentials across multiple labs, even in different cities, without the doctor checking each report. This week, the National Medical Commission clarified that doctors can remotely authenticate reports using legally recognised digital signatures, but only after genuinely reviewing the findings and clinical information. So is that happening on the ground? Port Blair-based pathologist Dr Anan Jaiswal alleges even NABL-accredited labs may be involved, including labs paid through the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). NABL has acknowledged that linking every report to the verified identity of the authorising doctor is ‘an area for improvement’. A wrongly reviewed report can mean a missed diagnosis, unnecessary treatment or delayed care. Who protects patients and public money? Watch, share and tell us in the comments. #DiagnosticScam #MedicalMalpractice #HealthcareFraud #PatientSafety #NABL #CGHS #MedicalNews
