“Any institution named in an audit or procurement finding should face a legal duty to respond publicly within a fixed window, sixty or ninety days, for instance, with a named individual and a date attached. Silence beyond that window should itself be a reportable fact, not something that simply dissolves into the record.” Excerpt from keynote address by Richard Ellimah, Chairman, Public Interest and Accountability Committee (@PIACGhana), at the ongoing Media and Stakeholder Accountability Forum @oxfaminghana

“Ghana does not lack evidence of what is going wrong in how public money is procured, spent and accounted for. What we have not reliably built is the mechanism that turns that evidence into consequence as a matter of routine, rather than as exceptional political will in an exceptional year.” ---Excerpt from keynote address by Richard Ellimah, Chairman, Public Interest and Accountability Committee (@PIACGhana ), at the ongoing Media and Stakeholder Accountability Forum @oxfaminghana

“Policymakers should view evidence not as a threat, but as an opportunity to learn, improve, and rebuild public trust.” ---Remarks by Mohammed Mahamud, Programme Manager, Accountable Governance Programme and Policy, OXFAM in Ghana @oxfaminghana at the ongoing Media and Stakeholder Accountability Forum @PIACGhana

“Journalists can expose wrongdoing, but the authority to investigate, recover public funds, sanction wrongdoing or reform policies largely rests with public institutions.” --- Excerpt from the welcome remarks by Sulemana Braimah @sulemana , Executive Director of the MFWA, at the ongoing Media and Stakeholder Accountability Forum @oxfaminghana @PIACGhana

“A government does not become weaker because journalists expose problems under its watch. Governments become weaker when those problems are ignored or allowed to continue.” ---Excerpt from the welcome remarks by Sulemana Braimah @sulemana , Executive Director of the MFWA, at the ongoing Media and Stakeholder Accountability Forum @oxfaminghana @PIACGhana

In 2023, our DPI Journalism Fellow Alfred Koroma asked a simple but important question: what happens to mobile money accounts when users die? His investigation found that the two providers he examined, Orange Money and Afrimoney, had no provision for customers to name a next of kin. An Afrimoney official acknowledged at the time that next-of-kin protocols had never really been on the company's radar. In August 2026, Afrimoney launched a Next-of-Kin Service, allowing subscribers to nominate a person to be contacted about their accounts in the event of death or incapacity.
