Canada Basketball officials have mentioned this before. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a camp and exhibition game in Auckland as well. Home exhibitions are tricky, as teams prefer to acclimatize closer to the World Cup location. Perhaps a tournament in China or the Arabian Peninsula as well for 🇨🇦 ?
The Australian Boomers are in advanced talks to host Canada for a two-game exhibition series ahead of the 2027 FIBA World Cup, sources have told ESPN.
The Games are contingent on both teams qualifying for the WC with no news yet on where in Australia they will be played.

Apparently Canada and Qatar will play an exhibition match as well prior to the FIBA World Cup per Mike Bartlett.
"As part of preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, Canada and Qatar are planning an international basketball friendly, linking the sport’s Canadian origins with Qatar’s expanding investment in global sport."

As Michigan junior guard Syla Swords heads into the 2026-27 season, she stands as one of the most elite, battle-tested playmakers and international stars in all of college basketball.
Coming off a productive sophomore campaign that earned her First-Team All-Big Ten honors and surpassed the 1,000-point career milestone, Swords averaged 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while lighting up opponents with high-level shot-making—highlighted by a dazzling 29-point, eight-triple performance against UConn and multiple 20-plus-point scoring explosions.
Her phenomenal trajectory is further elevated by an extraordinary summer on the international stage, where she earned MVP honors at the 2026 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament after averaging 14.8 points and shooting an impressive 45.0 percent from beyond the arc for Canada Basketball.
Possessing elite basketball IQ, limitless three-point range, and proven big-game poise forged from her historic Olympic and collegiate experience, Swords enters her junior year ready to pilot the Wolverines as an absolute national superstar. 〽️🏀 #GoBlue #ncaaw #BigTenWBB #WBB
You’re the best Coach. Your impact is forever.
Most players won’t play professionally, and that was never the point. Basketball is the training ground, not the destination.
Hours in the gym quietly teach you to take feedback without falling apart, perform when things are uncomfortable, read a situation quickly, and win and lose without letting either define you. Players also learn to keep going when progress is slow, to be useful inside something that isn’t about them, and to belong to something bigger than themselves.
None of it shows up in the box score, but all of it shows up for the next sixty years. Those skills only grow if the player stays in the game long enough for them to take hold, and that’s why the adults matter so much. Our job is to teach the game well and to make sure they’re still in the gym next season.
