When legendary design studio Hipgnosis set out to visually capture Edgar Allan Poe’s haunting universe for Tales Of Mystery And Imagination, they avoided literal gothic tropes. Instead, they created the 'Tape Man’, a mummy wrapped not in ancient bandages, but in 2-inch master recording tape.
It was the ultimate fusion of Poe’s obsession with entombment and the modern 1970s recording studio where Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson brought these stories to life.
Experience Hipgnosis’ iconic gatefold artwork restored in stunning detail across our 50th Anniversary reissues, and let us know in the comments if you know who wrapped themselves in tape to create that iconic image in the APP universe?

Wishing a very Happy Birthday to Jack Harris.
Jack was part of The Alan Parsons Project from the very beginning, providing backing vocals with John Miles on ‘(The System of) Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether’ from ‘Tales of Mystery and Imagination’.
He went on to take the lead on ‘Day After Day (The Show Must Go On)’ from ‘I Robot’ and ‘Pyramania’ from ‘Pyramid’, two memorable performances from the early years of APP.
Over 40 years in the making…. Back in 1983, fans of The Alan Parsons Project were invited to send in their details to hear more about a proposed book celebrating the band. Those original letters, sent from all over the world, have been kept ever since.
Sally Woolfson recently rediscovered them, along with the original book proposal, and shares the story of a project that may have taken a little longer than planned, but has finally come to life.
To everyone who wrote in all those years ago, thank you. We hope some of you are still fans and finally get to enjoy the book.

Happy birthday to drummer Stuart Tosh!
A founding member of Pilot who later joined 10cc, Stuart helped shape the sound of The Alan Parsons Project’s first two albums, ‘Tales of Mystery and Imagination’ and ‘I Robot’.
His drumming can be heard on tracks including ‘The Raven’ and ‘I Wouldn’t Want to Be Like You’.

Remembering Dean Ford on what would have been his 81st birthday.
Best known as the lead singer of Scottish band Marmalade, Dean first worked with Alan Parsons on his self-titled solo album in 1975, which Alan produced. Three years later, he joined The Alan Parsons Project for ‘Pyramid’, singing lead on ‘Can’t Take It With You’ and also featuring on ‘What Goes Up’.
Dean Ford (5 September 1945 – 31 December 2018).
This year marks the centenary of the death of Antonio Gaudí, the visionary Catalan architect whose extraordinary work inspired the final Alan Parsons Project studio album.
With the Sagrada Família’s central tower officially reaching its final height of 172.5 metres, making it the tallest church in the world, we’re joining the centenary celebrations with the release of ‘La Sagrada Familia (Rough Mix)’.
