This. Working families aren’t crazy. They’re reading the invoice. In California I was looking at $1,500–$2,500/mo for a young family before deductible, before OOP max. We walked. Pay cash. Hope the year is kind. Health insurance used to be the adult version of leaving the door unlocked. Now the healthy household is the residual payer and everyone wonders why people stop having kids. Twenty years ago if a kid was the last one after the game, you put him in the truck and took him home. Now it’s forms, license copies, insurance pages, sometimes fingerprints. You still don’t leave a kid in the cold. You just feel like a defendant while you do the right thing.
