Where it all began - Rookies Fantasy (Rodney) my first ever runner 2nd April 2009. This was after a young naive me purchasing him and a bitch (Rookies Hawk - Cassie) at 12 weeks old and rearing them through until about 13 months in the back garden (!). This boy was a cracker - I picked him on his breeding off of data - Premier Fantasy x Gunboat Karen. The shrewdest of you out there will recognise this turned out to being the same breeding as the machine Barefoot Bolt.
Seeing him get to the track was incredible, I actually documented the whole journey on a poker forum at the time and often go back to read it even now. He had a big following as you can hear from the roar that went up as he turned too close down the back and we knew the boy was ready to pounce around the @Oxford_Stadium 450m trip. Absolutely loved this boy, he went on to win his first three races but unfortunately his career got cut short on 12th September 2009 due to a hock injury after he actually led round in top grade. It was devastating but I’ll never forget this lad and the joy he brought to me, my family and friends - phenomenal boy who loved everything he did and everyone he met.
The love, the anticipation, emotion, excitement and the buzz on the video captured forever and always one we revisit. Love you Rodders ❤️

I earn £100 grand a year.
I have a detached house. 2 cars and my wife is a full time home maker.
I can just about afford this. I probably couldn’t afford the house I own if I was buying for the first time today.
My salary puts me in the top 5% of earners in the UK.
Top 5% to have a similar standard of living to Homer Simpson.
That is a disgrace.
We have a flatter salary distribution than Soviet Russia and the highest taxes and borrowing costs we’ve seen in generations.
Success is almost impossible because our tax system means hard work makes you a stressed out tax cow, not wealthy and certainly not free.
We need something radical.
Less state.
More family.
Less handouts.
More reward for risk.
Instead. Tomorrow, Labour will offer another batch of policies which will send one message to aspirational Brits: why bother.
I read a piece in the FT this week about the price of being middle class in Britain now and it said a couple earning £436,000 combined take home £216,000. That’s a crazy amount of tax, and it doesn't include VAT on purchases, council tax, stamp duty or other taxes (I think does include pension contributions). I can’t stop thinking about it.

Greyhound racing is worth protecting and we are proud of our people for taking our case to Downing Street.
A huge thank you to the owners, trainers, staff and greyhounds who travelled to No. 10 and No. 10 North to deliver a letter to Prime Minister Andy Burnham, signed by over 1,000 people from across greyhound racing. 👏
Those 1,000+ names are trainers, kennel staff, vets, caterers, bookmakers, track workers and more. Together they’re the heart of a sport that has brought communities together for 100 years.
Our ask is simple: fairness.
From April 2027, the tax on online bets is set to rise from 15% to 25%. UK horse racing has been exempted. Greyhound racing hasn’t. This exemption is the right thing to do - but it needs to be applied to us as well.
Greyhound racing supports 7,000 jobs, contributes £160m a year to the economy and gives towns like ours an affordable night out that’s been part of local life for generations. That’s worth protecting. Our sport is worth protecting.
With the Budget just days away, here’s how you can help:
✅ Write to Luke Akehurst, MP for North Durham, and ask them to back the same exemption for greyhound racing as horse racing
✅ Share this post
✅ Come and support us trackside
Let’s show everyone what our sport means to us. 🐾

How about the governing body govern appropriately by having the right processes and procedures in place to ensure tracks are actually preparing and being maintained correctly?
What checks are in place right now? Audits?
1/
A letter from @SALACRES to talk about the Injury Retirement Scheme and where the funding should be coming from.
greyhoundnewsuk.com/article/…
If the controls are in place from the governing body down, there doesn’t need to be any ambiguity on whether a track is being prepared correctly or not.
Is this just a letter because the gbgb doesn’t want to commit to the IRS scheme themselves anymore? It reads that way.
3/
Too busy focusing on the horses social posts @BetwayTowcester to let us dog folk know?
Or is it not as ‘all clear’ as posted last week? Why can’t the @GreyhoundBoard just let us know?
Replying to @TheOracleBen @kierondawson @borowatty @GreyhoundBoard @AbbieMacGregor3 @BetwayTowcester @PhilipDaviesUK
All clear with Gbgb I can confirm it’s now down to @BetwayTowcester to make the announcement which I believe is imminent
