A TON OF THINGS HAPPENED IN THE STOCK MARKET TODAY. Here's a full recap: 1. Nvidia $NVDA fell 2.9% to $208.48 as traders cut risk two days ahead of the most important earnings print of the quarter. 🎯 Wall Street is looking for roughly $92.07B in revenue and $2.09 in adjusted EPS on Wednesday, up from $1.05 a year ago. Company guidance issued in May was $91B plus or minus 2%, which would be about 95% YoY growth. Analyst targets sit between $275 and $325, averaging near $305. 2. Memory Chips $MU cratered 5.9% to $909.97 and $SNDK dropped 6.5% to $1,492.56 in one of the ugliest sessions the memory trade has seen all month. 📉 The trigger came from Korea, where Samsung's record shareholder-return plan landed short of expectations and its shares fell 9%, exposing just how crowded the memory long had become. Chinese memory maker YMTC then filed for a $4.9B Shanghai IPO, putting a longer-dated supply question back on the table. 3. Iran Sanctions Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled "Operation Economic Outcast," calling it an economic D-Day. 🚨 The program opens five new categories to secondary sanctions — digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping — and targets any country or company still doing business with Tehran. Oil went the other way: Brent fell 2.5% to $92.06. $XOM slipped 0.6% and $CVX lost 1.1%. 4. US-Canada Trade Talks collapsed and 50% tariffs hit roughly $20B of Canadian goods over the weekend. ⚠️ Trump escalated Monday by threatening to double duties on Canadian cars and parts to 50% starting January 1. Canada retaliates dollar-for-dollar on September 8, targeting steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics. $SPY closed down 0.29%. 5. Alibaba $BABA priced an HK$80B placement — 710 million new shares at HK$112.70, an 8.4% discount to Friday's close, raising about $10.2B. 💰 That is roughly 3.8% dilution, and 100% of net proceeds are earmarked for AI infrastructure, chips and models. Hong Kong shares fell 9.8%; the US ADR held up far better, down 0.7% to $118.47. 6. PDD Holdings $PDD posted Q2 revenue of RMB112.36B, up 8% YoY but short of the RMB115.41B consensus. Net income fell 12% to RMB27.18B (about $4B) and still beat the RMB24.40B analysts modeled — EPS landed at $2.85 versus $2.77 expected. Operating profit rose 8% to RMB27.76B. Spending on merchant support, platform governance and rural logistics is what is compressing the bottom line. Shares fell 1.5% to $87.08. 7. XPeng $XPEV was the day's worst large-cap decliner, down 8.7% to $11.13. 🔻 Q2 revenue of RMB19.74B rose 8% YoY and 51.5% sequentially, deliveries jumped 65% QoQ to 103,295 vehicles, and gross margin improved to 20.7% — but the company still lost RMB1.34B, or $0.19 per share. Q3 delivery guidance of 115,000 to 121,000 wasn't enough to hold the stock. 8. The Rest of Semis The damage was broad. $AMD fell 3.5% to $456.73, $AVGO lost 2.6% to $358.77, $INTC dropped 3.1% to $87.26, and $SMCI slid 5.6% to $35.15. Information technology was the worst of the 11 S&P sectors, down 1.3%, dragging $QQQ to a 1.0% loss as the Nasdaq Composite closed at 25,980. 9. Defensive Rotation Money didn't leave the market, it moved. 🔄 Consumer staples led all sectors, up 1.4%, and six of 11 sectors finished green. $V gained 3.1% to $382.39, $DIS added 2.6% to $110.60, and $UNH rose 2.2% to $398.77. That rotation is why the Dow closed up 0.26% at 53,417 while the Nasdaq fell 0.76%. 10. Expedia $EXPE was the standout winner, up 5.5% to $339.21 as the market kept digesting its August 5 Q2 report and a wave of target hikes. 📈 Benchmark went to $360 with a Buy, RBC lifted to $330 from $290, Wells Fargo nudged to $307, and BMO held at $285 with a Market Perform. The consensus target now sits near $314. 11. Gold and Rates Gold rose 0.76% to $4,650.64 at the US close and $GLD added 0.8% to $426.71. 🥇 The 10-year Treasury yield eased three basis points to 4.70%. Hard assets and duration both caught a bid on the same day equities dumped tech — a textbook risk-off signature. 12. Options Flow Calls outpaced puts roughly 2-to-1 market-wide despite the red screens. One contract stood out: the $XPEV October 16 $13 call traded 9,657 contracts, a bet that today's post-earnings drop reverses hard into the fall. 🔥 13. Jackson Hole The Kansas City Fed's symposium runs Thursday through Saturday in Wyoming, themed "Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy." 🏛️ It is the last major macro event before the September 16 FOMC decision, and positioning ahead of it kept $SPY and $QQQ on a short leash all session. 14. AI Capex Context for why every chip headline moves markets: the 14 largest publicly traded data center operators are on pace for roughly $750B of capex in 2026, up from just under $450B last year. 🏗️ $AMZN is guiding to about $200B, $GOOGL to $175-185B, $META to $115-135B, and $ORCL to near $50B, a 136% jump. 📡 RETAIL RADAR IS YOUR SCANNER FOR ALL STOCK MARKET NEWS
