Dig Dug - Atari 5200 (1983)
Most early games hand out simple blasters, but the main weapon in Dig Dug demands absolute commitment. Snagging a wandering Pooka or a fire-breathing Fygar with the air pump is only the first step. Inflating them roots the hero in place, transforming a basic attack into a tense standoff.
Stopping too early leaves a partially swollen monster to slowly deflate and resume the chase. This odd mechanic creates a unique rhythm of risk, where the smartest survival tactic is sometimes half-inflating a dragon just to safely walk right through it.

Ms. Pac-Man - Atari 5200 (1983)
Ms. Pac-Man brought a distinct personality and a few colorful surprises to the familiar maze formula. Outsmarting the ghosts felt entirely different when the bonus items started wandering through the corridors instead of waiting in the center. Chasing down a floating pretzel or a teddy bear before it vanished added a fun twist to clearing the dots.
The changing layouts kept the pursuit fresh, but the cartoon intermissions were the real prize. Reaching the next short scene to watch the characters fall in love at first sight or to see the arrival of the stork gave players a great reason to survive just a little longer. 馃巰

Looping - Colecovision (1983)
In Looping, the biplane constantly accelerates forward. Steering requires rotating the nose completely around to change direction, meaning flying backward involves pulling off a full mid-air loop. This control style turns simple flight into a struggle against momentum, especially when dodging hot air balloons in the opening sky section.
Once inside the narrow maze corridors, survival depends on tiny rotational adjustments. Players must guide the craft through jagged right angles while shooting bats and dodging green bouncing drops. Clearing the stage requires aligning the plane exactly with the final docking station, carefully managing the continuous thrust to touch down safely without colliding with the adjacent walls.
