Royal Navy county class destroyers Serving from 1962 until that late 80s early 90s the counties were large for a destroyer and often seen as a hybrid cruiser Even though they paid off after 25+ years service they went on to Chile and Pakistan the last left service in 2006

Still an iconic @royalnavy photograph nearly 40 years on. The Leander class Frigate, HMS MINERVA and her Lynx helicopter off the UK, 1987. Britain built 26, but more were built for export and 8 Navies operated these excellent compact frigates.

OTD in 1969: USS Grayling (SSN 646) was commissioned at PNS. The ceremony program is one of my collection favorites, the Sturgeon-class submarine famously left her mark on RFS Novomoskovsk (K-407) in 1993 when she bumped into the Delta IV SSBN in the Barents Sea.

#OnThisDay 60 yrs ago in 1966 the @RoyalNavy ordered the first of 4 Type 82 Destroyers, HMS BRISTOL. Shortly after, defence cuts removed the carrier she was designed to escort and BRISTOL was the only T82 built. She was decommissioned in 1991 & used for training until 2025.
