What's next when we talk about the #science_of_reading?
In "Beyond the Science of Reading," author Natalie Wexler "argues that while systematic phonics is necessary, it is insufficient." Students need not only decoding, but knowledge.

Our class completed a research simulation task using @TheWritingRevol to produce informative paragraphs about animal adaptations. Then we designed beautiful camouflage animals to accompany our writings! I love how these turned out! @LISShines @mhayes611

There are many good reasons for writing lessons to be connected to the content students have just learned.
First and foremost, it optimizes for cognitive load, because it removes the need for a student to conjure up content to write about.
This makes the design of The Writing Revolution quite smart:
It coaches teachers on how to craft writing lessons around the content in their curricula.

Teachers focus too much on broad writing skills while neglecting sentence-level instruction. Students need explicit teaching of sentence construction to express complex ideas effectively in writing.

When I trained to teach, the focus was on teaching the different purposes of writing. Writing to persuade, to explain, to describe.
By contrast, The Writing Revolution teach writing as a means of advancing thinking.
I think it's the latter approach that is more important in a world with AI.
