An FDA spokesperson did not agree to an interview, but in an email, pointed to an FDA news release that says the agency is using a "flexible approach" that will be "helpful in expediting product development."
The agency said it will work with Atara "to address these issues in accordance with established policies and procedures." It also said it plans to release a redacted version of its letter regarding tab-cel.
Nguyen said the FDA has been communicative and he hopes to sit down with the agency's representatives and "negotiate a way forward" within the next couple of months.
"The FDA are such good people," he said. "These people love what they do. We’ve interacted with the same people for the last seven years, so I think we can work this out."
