Lovely review of my new album The Ashford Affair by @seanbwparker - big thanks Sean đ
Ryan Fox - The Ashford Affair
Itâs fair to say that Kentish singer-songwriter Ryan Fox sounds somewhat unlucky in love. The Ashford Affair - named we presume after Foxâs town of residence - might as well be his Blood On The Tracks, Bob Dylanâs eviscerating heartbreak album
I first came across Fox on social media, as is increasingly the way of all things, in 2022, shortly after I was released from prison. I had spent four and a half years inside, released halfway through my sentence as per the current policy, and when Fox heard about why I was maintaining innocence, he wrote the sublime Allegation. The post-#MeToo nature of this wonderful song attracted a good deal of derision from the parts of social media where young(er) âliberalâ women congregate, but Fox proved he was able to deflect the harassment, and stand by his art
There are not many artists whose covers beat the originals, but to my ears Foxâs version of Sam Fenderâs Will We Talk, released some time before The Ashford Affair, surpasses the original in its purity and desperation for relationships to have more depth. Sinead O Connor ramping up the minimalist desolation in Princeâs Nothing Compares 2 U springs to mind
The Ashford Affair is a somewhat cracked mirror of the current division between the sexes, delivered in Foxâs plaintive, Robert Wyatt-esque style. Foxâs songs are consistently catchy; the pain on the inside, with a shimmering smile nonetheless. He also has a compulsion to genre-hop, which when the tunes are so effortless, is a lively and fun way to play
A highpoint on The Ashford Affair for me is You and Your Bit, Fox snarky about an ex who has seemingly âmoved onâ, reminiscent of Joe Jackson or even Paul McCartney in a bad mood. I Canât Make You Stay is excellent, like The Beautiful South-go-country, but far more fun than that sounds. Thanks Be To Jack is a wry ode to friendship, and I suspect Jackâs surname might be âDanielsâ (but I could be wrong)
The album opens with Devil In A Black Dress, lyrically self-explanatory, but riffing off Billy Idol or even Suicide in tone and treatment, a propulsive dirge about the scales falling from infatuated eyes. Tears In The Mirror is terribly sad, like Billy Braggâs golden years; The Letter and Canterbury Kiss on similar lost love lines. But there is always a silver lining with Ryan Fox, and closer Meet Somebody Tonight is such a proper 80s-style floor-filler I can almost smell the hairspray and Lynx though my laptop screen
Music has ever been a cathartic way to process the pain of lost love, or even devotion, and @Thinker_Fox is a low-fi, pure and honest master of it

Nice girls are nice, but bad girls are something else.
I want it bad, their bad romance.
Theyâll make you suffer, but you canât deny you want them more for it.

It was tough to experience the barrage of online bullying and harassment I received for writing Allegation, but I always felt that Seanâs story was one that needed to be told. If I have been able to comfort the disturbed (Ă la Woody) in any small way then I consider my work done.

Gay love is like any other love.
Footballers just want to be adored.
Sadly there are many who feel unable to be open about their sexuality in the menâs game particularly.
We should do our bit to challenge these views.

Ryan Fox recorded this song, Allegation, about my case after he heard about it around 2022
He got a lot of Insta-abuse over it, but stood true to his art, and I'll be forever grateful

ANTI-ZIONISM PROTECTED BY UK LAW
We have set a binding legal precedent!
Anti-Zionism is now a protected philosophical belief under the Equality Act 2010. Full stop.
The Employment Appeal Tribunal finally handed down its judgment this morning. The University of Bristolâs attempt to overturn my 2024 Employment Tribunal victory has been comprehensively dismissed. We won on every single count.
This is a public humiliation for the genocidal Zionist regime, whose assets in Britain bullied the University into sacking me and then dragged them into this futile appeal. Their legal strategy has collapsed. Their pressure campaign has spectacularly backfired.
Thanks to everyone who believed in me and supported me. This is a victory for the whole anti-Zionist movement.
A full statement will follow shortly.

Let me say this very directly.
Football does not belong to investors. It belongs to the people who fill the stands and who stand on the touchline week in, week out, rain or shine.
The World Cup is not a product. It is the greatest competition in world sport, and it was never anyone's to sell. Dress the deal up however you like. Once you have sold a piece of it, you have sold out.
Football belongs to the fans. It always has, and it always will.

Depends on how it is administered. But in principle I am for it. In fact I think it is inevitable in the long run.
A lot of current jobs will become redundant by AI. Many folks donât enjoy their jobs, itâs a means to an end. UBI would free them up to work on their passions.

Sure - the weather forecast for the south east for tomorrow is over 30 degrees Celsius, so Iâm concerned about how this may affect your services. I watched the video on National Rail website and it says to check with my rail provider for more details.
